I'll explain why I'm posting here (besides it being bird photos). On the home page there is a new 'Today in Gardening History' clip and there is also a new Gardening History forum (but photos can't be posted since it's just 'facts and discussion). One of the first items when this started was about Wake Island and the adjoining Peale and Wilkes island. Peale Island is now a bird sanctuary. I've been to this island several times, the most recent almost 2 years ago. You can read a little more on the Gardening History forum, but I was asked to post some photos of the birds and this seemed to be the appropriate forum for doing so.
Birds of Wake Island
I forgot to say, the first photo is a Great Frigatebird. They primarily nest and stay on Peale Island.
This is a brown (or black) noddy - I forget. All the birds primarily stayed and nested on Peale until the super typhoon a couple of years ago. Now these are rather a nuisance bird on the large island (Wake) and on Wilkes which was heavily damaged in the typhoon. It was almost impossible to jog or walk in early morning or late afternoon without getting attacked by these guys.
Very nice! Good to see some birds from a new part of the world for this forum.

That Noddy is really interesting and that Tern is gorgeous. Great photos.
Have you figured out a place to post the pictures of the aftermath of the storm? I understand from the Star-Bulliten archives that it was completly changed and would like to see how.
Not yet. Thinking about the Garden Talk forum, but I'll wait and see if anyone else has any ideas.
Thanks so much for posting these!
Thanks for the link on the Garden History Forum OutsidePlaying to this thread. Nice pics. Would luv to see more.
Me too and the pictures of the aftermath of the storm!! I am so glad you posted!!
