Cabin fever getting to me, I am hallucinating over next summers garden!
Pouring over seed catalogs, searching for plant & seed info on web sites!
Started a seed starting spreadsheet on google!
Ordering seeds and garden supplies!
Joined a Seed Round Robin.
Organizing the seeds I already have.
Spending way to much time on DG. Is that possible?
Help! Get me out of the house and into some soil fast.
How are you all coping?
Planning for 2009 gardening season.
A seed spreadsheet???? wow you have it bad!
Knowing I don't have the funds is keeping me grounded. I do have some plants I need to move and need replacements for. I'm saving the $ I got for my b-day to buy 3 new plants(prob in sets of 3)....I keep cruising the catalogs and changing my mind about what I want.
Forgot to say... I do have a bunch of seeds but I have no place to start inside. I want to start a veggie garden this year, but don't know if that's going to happen...we'll see.
I will not start too many seeds, I will not start too many seeds, I will not.....
I ordered more Canna, Caladiums, Hostas and Perennials. Plus Dahlias which I haven't had for years from the DG Co-ops. I ordered hundreds of starters from my HGA Co-op. So space will be a real issue for me, I keep saying that I can't start seeds but.... There are plants that I really want and seed starting is how I will get them. Lets see MG, Datura, Scarlet Milkweed, Zinnia.
Oh, golly. I had a spreadsheet my first year here, but it may be all I can do this year to make some lists (or just seed piles) of "sow in Feb," "start in March," and "winter sow!"
Holly, I've got some seeds on the way for a neat Siberian Achillea http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/54919/ that might go well with your milkweed or zinnias... I tried hard to resist adding lots of seeds to my pepper co-op order, but that's one I just had to have.
I do want to get out but don't want to commit to starting seeds yet. Babies to worry about! I'm feeling unwilling to commit! Maybe because my houseplants are sort of lingering and struggling with mites.
But ask me again tomorrow, probably go complete opposite on it LOL.
It helps that I left some older seed outside and ruined it. thanks heaven no more guilt over them!
Over the years I have struggled to keep some form of note keeping for starting seeds, but the notes get misplaced or I didn't keep up with it. When I came across another DG using the Google spread sheet I thought this might be the answer to my problem, I like how I can arrange the seeds in alphabetical order with just a click of the mouse, so adding a new seed or verity is a pleasure.
As I gather more information such as bloom times, it will give me a better idea for seed starting times for following years.

I have some Caladiums coming from the co-op and plants from Bluestone. Not done ordering supplies and more seeds. But I still have a few weeks to get everything together.
I tried to peek at your spreadsheet and be awed, but access is restricted. Probably a good thing to curb our jealousy at your good organization!
Sorry, Happy still trying to navigate the Google spreadsheet. If you d-mail me your web address I could send you an invitation to view it.
I tried the link preview and it worked but that is probably because I am the "owner" of the spreadsheet.
If any one wants an invitation to view just d-mail me.
Happy could you take a minute and see if this will work, I accessed this link through my DG Diary.

If that is not working, if you click on my screen name and go to My Diary, look under Gardening 2009 see if you can click on that link. Thanks for your help.
Chris
I just got to peek at somebody's Garden Journal... and I've decided I must start one this year! It looks like a very good way to keep track of seeds, what's been planted, etc.
No, it still doesn't work. I don't know how people running co-ops set up their spreadsheets so everyone can have access. There must be an option buried in Google to make it public. I've never set up one of those spreadsheets.
Happy, you are probably right, I have an "account" with google which is free and I can view another DGer's spreadsheet.
I'll get you the link to her thread and see if you can view that one. I'll figure this out sooner or later. Be right back. Ok, back. try this thread and see if you can access her's.

Jill, I just love the Journal. I find it so easy to gather up plants if I go into plant files find the plant that I have and then send it to my journal.
One thing that I learned, if the species is not listed for the plant in plant files the link to the plant files will not be in your journal, but I found a way around that. Just copy the link from plant files and paste in as an entry in your journal.
And I making sense here? Trying to post this before I leave for work. LOL
One thing I love with journaling- take your cultivar name and go to the Plantfiles, then go down and hit Add to journal, then you get all the technical name filled out for you.
Birds are singing extra nice today they already know it'll be warmer!!!!! Maybe I'll get those seeds out after all...I have to split some parsley with my sister and she'll need them soon.
Lady: Yes, I can view your friend's just fine.
I think I have it corrected. Try the link now, and let me know if it works.
Sally, isn't it a beautiful day, boss took us to lunch today and there were more cars on the streets and people walking around, the town that I work in does not plow less then 6 inches of snow or put down anti-skid so it is a mess just driving to the store there. I'm sure that most of the senior population in town was out getting their groceries and medications today since the snow has melted off the roads.
My packets of seeds arrived from Summer Hill Seeds today!!!!
Chris
Seeds in the mail woo hoo!!
It was a nice break from the cold, but not warm enough to thaw my old compost, or to weed. So I did a little light pruning, raspberries and forsythia. I know there wil be lots more to do in spring!!
Oh, I just can't wait for spring really want to get out there and dig.
Critter, Those Siberian Achillea sure are pretty.
Your spreadsheet worked like a charm! Only problem -- I'm too sleepy to read it!
Holly, my Achillea seeds arrived today from Hazzard's! I'll split off a pack or two for the swap. Sounds like I can put your name on one? Will have to try to make a note of it on the swap thread. :-)
Thanks, Happy. There was a setting on it where you can let everyone view it without signing in. Not much to read at this point, information will be added as things progress. Right now I am adding seed names and notes on germination needs. Don't miss the comment notes, they are "hidden" until you click on the little yellow dot in the upper right corner of an entry. That is a neat feature.
Got a lite dusting of snow last night, I guess our January thaw is over ; (
What a great idea!!! Much better then my lame-0 way of sending dmails to myself and making various folders...LOL.
Thanks Critter I'll take a pack or part of one. I finally got a label maker. I have wanted one ever since seeing Brent's at Harts Swap. Last year I got some metal plant markers but never did get the label maker. Boy I'm going to be so organized this year. LOL
Before I start my seeds. I want to sit down with the seeds, a pen, pencil, paper and a bunch of labels. So I can make a list of what I'm planting along with labels for them. I hate getting into the planting and then having to make the labels. That's how I'll try to be more organized! I hope I have a bunch of mini blind labels already in my seed box.
HollyAnn: I have a label maker, but don't use it much. Do the regular labels hold up outside?
I got in on that co-op for the tree/shrub type tags...that wrap around a branch...I like these as puppies and children can't know these off or pull out of the soil...LOL...not that, THAT ever happens here...
I missed that co-op -- but be careful about anything that wraps around a branch. A friend lost a tree because she neglected to pull off a marker that wrapped around the trunk.
The mini blinds are my life savers! I use those for my seed starting labels, also helps to put the growth height on the back , I always forget how tall the plant will get when it comes time to plant.
Hubby drilled holes in my winter sowing tub, so I guess I don't have an excuse not to get started, the rest is up to me.
Now to go over my seed stash and pull out the winter sow seeds, markers, pens, get my baggies ready, (using the baggies they deliver the newspaper in) add water to my starting mix.
Once they are sowed I can update my spreadsheet.
Chantell, for your tags, could you try punching a hole in a mini blind tag and using a loop of nylon panty hose to secure it to the plant?
Panty hose -- OMG has it been a long time since I struggled into a pair of them!
Happy we will see how well they work. I've heard good things about them. The tape I bought says for both inside and outside use. I use the window blind markers quite a bit. They can be cut down to what ever size you want. I expect some of my printed labels will end up on some of those. I think they work best outside if you tuck most of the marker in the ground, just leave an inch or so up.
Ric's doing more electrical work in the back room, part of the laundry room remodel. I'm making him little labels for some of his wires.
My organizational skills aways start out good and then go down hill. Good idea Sally get them done before you run out of steam. I was thinking much the same thing maybe make labels for all my Co-op plants before they all get here.
Great ideas, Holly!! Sadly, or not, I have so many of them that it will be SOME time before I need more...LOL.
Happy - I'm trying to be very careful as I wasn't with a support on one of my Plumerias and the one branch is warped b/c of it...ugh - live and learn...
Your plumeria has branches!... *sigh*
Hey, mine is not dead yet! I guess that's something.
I trump both of you -- I killed mine right off the bat!
(I didn't realize there was indoor-outdoor tape -- I'm going to look it up right now. I use computer-generated labels which work great, but sometimes you just want one or two ----)
It may have come to me as a 2 tip (I think this one's were a bit more then just tips though) and remember I've had mine for 3 years at this point...half came already rooted. Plus once they have an inflo (so I'm told) that produces a branch

Look at you Chris!!! Great job!!
Ok...pots:
16" $10
13.9" $8
11" $6
9" $4
They didn't have out what would be the 7" or 5" (I'm guessing)...but would think they'd be probably .99 & $2 maybe?
Opps - wrong thread...will copy n paste over there

Happy, you want a labeler? I've pretty much switched over to the clear laser labels. I get so much sun that the tape ones fade in a couple of seasons. They would probably do better for you. I also was thinking maybe I'd still use it when I wanted just 1 or 2 labels, or put it to use labeling stuff around the house, but so far it's been sitting in my drawer... with plenty of label tapes, too!
You'd be welcome to try it out, see if you like it. (Dymo Letra Tag Qx50)
I've nursed my plumeria through 2 summers. It does have 2 tips now, but neither is long enough to be called a branch quite yet LOL.
Jill: You're a sweetie -- but I have one, I just don't use it. Frankly, I've never used it -- it's still in its original package. I think I got it at Costco on the cheap. I love the laser jet labels, and they do last forever-- but sometimes it is a bother for just one label. I'm sorry to hear the labeler labels fade though. . . . Do they fade if they are not in the sun?
No, no... it's not the laser labels that fade on me, it's the Dymo ones. And they'd probably be fine in a less super-sunny spot,
