Recently we had a fire, and we lost our l6 x 30 foot greenhouse that was completely packed for winter. It burned to the ground. I had 30 to 40 different double flowering brugmansias out there.
We are not going to rebuild the greenhouse and not giong to get into tropicals again. But there were a few of the brugmansias that did so well for me that i'd love to try them again.
Unfortunately The only two that I do have for trade were stored inthe garage, so I don't have much in the line of brugs to offer in trade for these.
I do have the daydreams and super nova brug I can send cuttings off of.
I am looking to replace my new orleans lady and golden lady, these two brugs did excelent for me. and I'd love to replace them this spring when it starts warming up.
This fire was quite a devistation to me, Here's what the greenhouse looked like when I packed it this fall.
Fire burned the GH down, Lost all my brugs
OH NO...............I ordered a few from you last year and they are doing great. I would hate to think of my gh being destroyed by fire. I thought it was blowing away during Ike last year but I lucked out and only lost the top. All the plants survived. Wish I could help you out with your 2 needed ones but don't have those. Best wishes............
Susie
Kathy, I think I have a Golden Lady in the greenhouse rooting. I will know for sure early Spring. I will have to look to see if I have New Orleans Lady. If I don't have one rooting, I can for sure get you a couple cuttings.
Patricia
Thank you susie, I know i'll come across them sooner or later.
Thank you Patricia I'm truly greatful for that.
Kathy Ann,I have a New Orleans Lady with your name on it.D-mail me your address so I don't have to look back through my paper mountain.
OH...Kathy Ann.. My God.. My heart surely goes out to you.. sure start back with a few.. you'll be going strong soon enough.. from the looks of the flu pipe in the first photo.. seems you were burning in a stove in there.. was that your heat source.. I wish I could help you .. but I don't have a Golden Lady for you.. I'm sure you'd receive a pile of them if you wanted others... the devestation would be about more than I could imagine.. like loosing menbers of the family.. so I can also undestand your reluctance... so sorry...
Thanks so much, I told someone the other day it was kind ofl ike loosing a child. I can't imagine what it would be like to actually loose a child . And thank god no one was hurt in this fire.
I did have quite a collection of plants. .
I do know that I am not going to rebuild. My children are almost out the door now, grown. and I need to think about me and my husband and the greenhouse was such a big tie down anyways. I'll have a few tropicals, that I can store in the garage during the winter, but I'm finished with the collection that I once had. I hated for it to all end like this. But all things have to happen for a reason and good will come out of this.
Thank you so much JT for the new orlenas lady. It's going to go into my new flower garden, and I'll pull it out of the ground during the wintermonths.
Patricia, since Jt is sending me the new orleans lady, If you could check on that golden lady in the spring time, I'll be set. And I do appreciate this kindness you guys. Thanks
I'll dmail you my addy JT
kathy
btw, we did have a wood stove in there. which is probably how it caught on fire. but we'll never know possitively what caused it. I had no insurance on it either.

kathy, my heart goes out to you and your loss... I can not imagine the devastation you must feel.. prayers are for you and yours..
I have a nice 'Golden Lady' plant for you I will ship in April as it warms here again.
0º this morning is NOT brug shipping weather. ha
I am very sad for you.
We had a huge fire that burned our 40' x 100' 1893 barn to the ground in February a few years back and we lost alot )-;
You never recover from tragedies .. but life goes on. And 'this too shall pass' is really true. Also out of the depths, you will witness good will fill the loss. So keep your chin up :-)))
Anything else you need, just say.
Alice
Kathy I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It is terrible to lose stuff you prize so much but be Thankful no one was in there at the time .
So sorry for your loss Kathy :{ Being a former Insurance Underwriter, I can't help but wonder if you did have some coverage that the claim adjusters are not telling you of (you know how they can be!) Please do insist on a reason (the actual clause) for the denial of coverage. Most Homeowner policies do have coverage for other structures altho I'm not familiar with Farm policies if you have one.
Years ago, some kind of critter got caught in my poly GH and and clawed it's way out, naturally I was denied coverage. Not taking "NO" for an answer, I persued the claim and did get enough coverage for a full repair. Perhaps your policy may be different, but please, just don't lay down and take their word, do some research! Even if you don't rebuild, you could get a settlement which could make your loss just a bit easier to swallow.
Good luck and God Bless,
Vi
I pulled out the policy myself, and read the exact same thing that she told me. no out buildings are covered it says NIL on those, except our big shop which is insured becuase we added insurance on to it. In surance companies have been canceling barn insurance on folks around here also. saying they won't cover barns any longer. course we don't have insurance on our barn either. but we no longer use the barn for hay .
Grrr! I'd sure be shopping for a new carrier, most agents have no idea what they are even selling! Perhaps a call to your state Insurance Commissioner may be in order, good luck and again, so very sorry for your loss.
Kathy, I'm sorry for your loss. Even with insurance, getting money out of insurance companies is a hassle.
Shocking news, I am so sorry that you had such a devastating loss. I wish that I had what you're looking for. I don't but did want to send my condolences.
Bev
Kathy,
I am so sorry to hear this, we had a house fire quite a few years
ago and it is a very hard thing to go through.
Your in my thoughts and prayers,
Karen
Kathy Ann, I'm so sorry about your loss, I have several kinds of named brugs . will be happy to share with you. just tell me what else you are looking for besides the ones that you have coming already.
elva
I'm good for now Elva, I appreciate it though. I'm not goin g to have a large area for storing them so I'm just gonna stick with perennials from now on.
Thanks everybody for your kind wishes.
Ok Kathy Ann , my offer is good if you change your mind. Also other plants besides brugs if I have them you are more than welcome to them.
Elva
Kathy Ann, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I just can't imagine how you must feel.
I've watched you for several years now building that lovely collection you had and see myself a lot in you.
I'm convinced that everything happens for a reason although we might not know just what it is ( sometimes we will learn the reason later on). There are times when I have nightmares about all the work I need to do to keep my own collection going, as my age is getting on up there when I know I won't be able to do it much longer.
I have both Golden Lady and New Orleans Lady, and if something happens so that JT, Patricia, Alice and whoever else offered them, are unable to send these to you, let me know and I'll get them both ready for you.
You are once again in my prayers.
Hugs,
Kay
Thanks Kay, Jt is sending next week, I forgot to get in touch with Alice. Patricia's never did root for her, I never had a good time rooting int he winter either. So I'll dmail alice in the spring, maybe she can send me one. I appreciate the kind words.
Kathy_ann I am so sorry this has happened to you. Your GH was full of beautiful plants. I am at a loss for words.
I dislike insurance companies. We went through Hurricane Ike and 1/2 of my hoop house was crushed. I just can't worry about what freezes with no where to get it out of the cold. I did get somethings in the garage but most is not. Hopefully this spring what is left I will try to plant a few each week. My Back and legs did not hold up cleaning this yard from Ike. It still has piles of limbs everywhere and my lot is not that big. It all has to be hauled to the dump and that is the biggest killer. A few limbs a week and by 2020 it should look decent again.
If you decide on any other plants and I have any they are yours,
Blessings,
Sandy
Kathy, like everyone else I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Please check out my have list for plants. Most of my brugs died back with our suprise snow, but will have plenty to share in late spring.
How terriable to lose such a wonderful greenhouse and all those beautiful plants. I am soooo sorry for your lose and I will keep you in my prayers. I hope you will change your mind later and build another it is so satisfying to see all the flowers in bloom and so good for the soul.
Take time to mend and come back again we will all help you recover.....
my very best heart felt wishes.....

OH MY GOSH! I'd be in tears for weeks! Did I miss how the fire started?
WE have a guess at how it started, but doesn't really matter, cause we're never gonna be possitive on how it started.
I'm so sorry to hear of this Kathy_Ann. You have a great attitude. I doubt I could be so graceful.. you are right, it is a huge job, and a lot of responsibility. I'm still sorry to see it happen.
Just found this thread and could have cried over all the lost brugs in the GH fire.
I'm really new to brugs and here is a pic. I took this AM of Bergkonigin that ZZsBabiez sent me last July. I was so happy when buds started forming then they dropped off. I have now discovered I have a beautiful pink double brug and I am so very pleased. So happy Joyce introduced me to them. I have some new cuttings rooted and doing fine so far of other brugs. Thanks again ZZs
PS My mom would have loved her as her favorite color was pink.
Kathy
I couldn't imagine, what you're going through, my thoughts & prayers are with you
a positive attitude is the best thing you can have, if you change your mind about
getting more brugs, keep me in mind I could help you out in a few weeks, I
have a lot of clippins, I could share with you
Elizabeth
Thank you all so much, Come this spring when I get megga spring fever I may change my mind. Rigth now we're in a middle of finishing off an ice storm and it sounds like the sky is falling on to p of my house LOL a ll the ice is coming off the trees.
I am sorry I would be looking for another Policy as well. I lost my HF to a bad Windstorm and It ended up being fully covered and they paid for plants inside as well as hiring someone to put it back up. I am so Sorry for your loss. I know the feeeling of loss all to well. Brandy
