Hi everyone I haven't seen a post from Tplant in
3 days. Are you alright Tplant?

Been a bit under the weather and unable to tend my plants as the doctor ordered complete rest until my bronchitis is still bothersome but today he said my lungs were clear and I know that to be true as I have not been coughing for the past two days but with the cold weather we are having here I must stay in although I did pick about fifty pounds of tomatos with my family briefly as I just had to pick a few. This was and is a fantastic growing year. Thanks for missing me!
As a matter of fact I had to see two doctors today back to back in different offices. My regular MD and my bariatric MD. Both gave me the OK but stay home until the weather warms and avoid crowds for now. Sitting on my butt for six weeks has put 7 lbs back on me but to them that was a good sign of recooperation. So OK!

Well after our cold snap last night, low 30's, I don't think my tomatos will fare to well as it is to freeze tonight for a few hours so I may be cleaning everything up and starting my peppers and melons a little sooner and filling all my 19 EBs with Bob's coir.

Joy -- I was following another thread on raising tomato seedlings and think you misunderstand the principle. If you are to plant them in EBs you must re-plant them into 3 or 4 inch pots planting them as deep as possible by removing the bottom leaves. After three weeks or so you plant them again deep as possible in the EB.
Now with Bobs's 5 gal coir bag you remove half the core after hydrating, set the core aside for later as it won't go bad, plant the seedling as deeply as possible in the half filled bag and as the plant grows keep adding the wet core back as the plant requires until it reaches the top and that is all you need except for outside supports like sticks or the vinyl coated rods from Lowes. Always buy the five footers.

Tplant, I hope you are wrong about the freeze tonight. I will lose so much. Tomatoes, cukes, peppers, squash, and maybe my strawberries.

We got lucky! I hear some towns had snow flurries? LOL Wonder what the temps were up in Orlando. We use to have hard freezes up there in 1980. I lived there for eight months and that was it! Had one night of 17* BRRRR

TPlant: ???? You have lost me? You mean when I plant the tomato seeds in the seed starting kit, when they show their 2 sets of leaves I cannot just put them in the EBs? Please explain. You know I'm new at this and I sure love my maters. By the way, at the Lowes here, I found some tomato cages and trellises really cheap, had to grab them before they were gone, and yes I got the real huge ones. LOL I had figured the trellis would be nice for the peppers?

Joy,
Go to the Self Contained Veggie thread. I posted you a reply about how this is all done and why.

Went to the doctor today for another daily inhaler treatment and perhaps the last one tomorrow but because it is chronic bronchitis I'll have to get one of those portable inhalers to keep in my bedroom when and if I have to use it but will always go to the doctor afterward for safety reasons. This disease destroys ones strength, ambition and always makes me feel tired. I am 95% back to normal at this time but must avoid ,for now, large crowds, heavy odors and most important DUST which unfortuneately goes with gardening but by using Boca Bob's coco coir I will no longer have that problem. That's another one I owe him!

T, i have a "to-go" nebulizer and another one by my beside. fortunately, i haven't been using them in a while. it's good to know coco coir does not have small enough particles to aggravate bronchitis, asthma (in my case), and other respiratory conditions.

have a great weekend!

T, I know I am harping on this, but when I mow my grass without a mask my sinuses and headaches suffer 200% more than when I mow wearing a mask. If wearing a mask means I get to enjoy gardening then I will be wearing it for sure.

Just my $0.02.

Hope your condition improves.

Doctor gave me the all clear for now but if I should start coughing again to come back immediately! Ok so I can now start to work in my garden again and I will wear a mask if and when I mow my lawn. Although with EBs there isn't any dust because of the covers and moisture of the soil I will be extra careful because of the rare construction dust. They really do their best to eliminate it and do a good job. They will be paving in a couple of weeks and finished by the end of March.
