and....1 very sweet black squirrel who does not bother my feeders; he takes the peanuts that I throw out for him and cleans up under the feeders

Marlton, NJ

Mashpee, MA

WOW, pelletory.....those are impressive numbers. You must go through a ton of seed for that gang. I wish that I had that many cardinals.....a lot of my local birders are noticing that there are fewer this year.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Few specific numbers...too many here to count...but here is our general list based on the last few days.

House Finch - LOTS!!!
Goldfinch - LOTS!
House Sparrows - too many :(
Starlings - 100's here too!
Cardinals - I have counted yp to 30 in the yard at one time
Blue Jays - at least a dozen!
Dark-eyed Juncos - too many to count
Tufted Titmouse - lots
White-throated Sparrow - 4

Lawrenceville, GA

My list would be similar, but I want to know what's happening to the red-headed woodpeckers. None of you have them on your lists (unless I missed it) and I haven't seen one in my yard for more than a year. Plenty of red-bellieds and downies, ect.

Mashpee, MA

I haven't EVER seen a red headed wp but they are rare for my area anyway.

I used to get a lot of squirrels but this little black squirrel is very aggressive and chases all of the others away. I don't know where he came from....he didn't show up here until late December. He is not as tame as the grey squirrels...I have been trying to get a good photo of him for weeks and he resists me getting right up to a window with a camera. But I'm going to keep trying.....

I have only been feeding birds here at this house for 2 years. How long have you all been feeding?

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

We saw one Red-headed Woodpecker once in our yard back in the spring of 2007.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Don't have a big variety but lots of :
Redpolls, Common and Hoary (Tons)
Evening Grosbeaks(lots)
Pine Grosbeaks (lots)
Starlings (Lots) but not as much as last year.
Mourning Doves (lots)
Juncos, not many
Black-capped Chickadees (Lots)
Downy Woodpecker A few pairs
Hairy Woodpecker A few pairs
Bohemian Waxwings lately only one, but usually come in big groups.
6 Pine Siskens
1 Sharp Shin Hawk often enough
1 Shrike
American Crow once in a while
6 Blue Jays
Haven't seen the Goldfinches, since we had that Arctic cold air last week.

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

Wow you guys, impressive! I dont' count, but here are my regulars:

Pine Siskin
Goldfinch
Chickadee
Titmouse
White-Breasted Nuthatch
Red-Breasted Nuthatch (winter only)
Dark Eyed Junco (winter only)
Pileated Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Blue Jay (every now and then)
Mourning Dove
Cardinal

Non-Frequent Guests
Common Redpoll
House Finch
Song (?) Sparrow

And this summer we'll see if the crows return. Last year we had a family that came by regularly, esp for the water. It was awesome to see the young ones try to bathe.

Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

I don't count them either but I have bunches of Cardinals, White-throated sparrows, chipping sparrows, Am. Goldfinches and Juncos.
I have a couple of Tufted Titmice, Carolina Chickadees, Blue Jays and an occasional Purple Finch and Song Sparrow. I actually had a Brown Thrasher on my suet feeder today and sometimes a Carolina Wren eats the suet as well.

South Hamilton, MA

Pair of cardinals, juncos, chickadees, titmice, 2 bluejays. Flock of robins was working a crabapple tree, not the feeder. The black squirrel is a color phase of the grey ones.

Monkton, MD(Zone 6b)

We were thrilled today with new visitors. There was a large dusky brown/black woodpecker with a red throat working our suet cake. Almost as big as a red-bellied with the tail feathers similar to the red-bellied. It had the white wing patch of the yellow bellied sapsucker but it wasn't as clear black and white and it didn't have the head marking. It did have an orange/red throat marking. We concluded it was a juvenile. Later we saw a female. Since they are migratory I wonder how far north they came from. We see new birds in the summer but it is pretty rare for us to see a new bird in the winter.

pelletory - lots of hawks! Are they showing up for the songbird smorgasboard at your house like they do at ours? They wait in an oak, then swoop down and drive mostly doves into our windows and then swoop down and carry them off. Earlier this winter I saw a red-tailed carry off a squirrel from under our feeder.

Marlton, NJ

Hi otta, I also see the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is hybridizing with the

Red-naped Sapsucker.

Yes the Coopers and Sharp-shinned Hawks are just here in the colder months and love to stalk the bird feeders.

We have the Red-tailed all year long and I have seen them in the yard eating dead rabbits or possum. I watched them raid a squirrel nest the other year.
