get to know each other?

Marks, MS(Zone 7b)

I have been to other forums where they have started threads to get to know each other better. Since this is my VERY favorite forum on here, it would be great to get to know you guys better on a personal level. Why dont we all post pics of ourselves and tell each other a bit about ourselves, such as jobs and other interests, etc?

Since I started the thread I guess I will start. I am a 35 yr old female. Right now I work for whirlpool where we make stoves. This spring I am loosing my job, as our plant is closing. In the past, I have done many jobs, from MIG welding (love it), chemical research and development, quality control, etc. I absolutely love animals, and would have a ton more if my BF would allow it. Right now I have two dogs ( a dachshund and a hairless chineese crested), an african grey parrot who talks his precious head off (hes soooo spoiled), a rabbit, a fish tank, and a pair of peafowl. I can't convince my BF, to allow me to have any lizards, but they are my favorite, and before I moved here I had about 100 different species of geckos (in at least pairs of treos...so closer to like 300 geckos). I have dreamed about being a herpetologist, but don't think I could deal with the snakes (they are the ONLY animal I don't care much for). I also am a bit of a tattoo freak and have 3 tattoos.I love gardening and plants (of coarse), and rhipsalis are my favorites. Can't wait to learn more about you guys! 8-)

Hi, Judy Showers (Buttoneer) I am 65, newly retired (12/31/08) and happily enjoying it here at home in Pennsylvania with my DH Bob and my little Rat Terrier (Fritzie) who has his own thread. Bob built me a 10' X 22' attached greenhouse out of old storm windows & cement blocks and I love it! Epi's hanging all over. Now I have more time to tend to the plants & give them the much-needed care they didn't get for all these years. Here's my pix. Here is me with Passiflora jeannette

Welcome.

Nice to get to know you buttoneer. Im originally from the NY, PA border. I bet its cold in PA right now.

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

Yes, but it went up to 50 degrees today. That hasn't happened here in weeks and it was welcome. Here's the greenhouse. We used 100-lb tanks of propane & use a ventless propane gas heater to heat the greenhouse. We keep it at around 55 degrees in winter. It costs us $ 62.00 per bottle of propane and that lasts 2 weeks, so it is costing $ 124.00/month in winter to heat it. Of course, if we have sunny days, we don't have to use so much propane.

Hi Everyone, I am Linda. I love epis, I have a small cold frame and most of my plants are in the heated aviary with my tropical birds. I started really adding to my collection a couple of years ago after my first one bloomed. I cannot wait to see more bloom....
I get to stay home because of a spinal problem and a very generous hubby. I have a teenage boy who keeps me on my toes and a mutt, a dachsund, a cat and 46 birds. Can you tell I don't get out much?
It is cold this morning, but should go into the high 40's here today.

Hello everyone,
I am torriesmom, aka Ivy. I am a single female. Employed for 33 years with the same company. So I do not need to tell you that I am doing a countdown, I am waiting for 4 more years to retire and the growing party is on. I enjoy doing a little indoor gardening.at times and will start to expand my gardening skills soon after leaving work. I live in a residential building on a low floor so I do not have sunlight to grow anything at all. My plants do pretty well under lights. I own by a black cat named Torrie who thinks of me as mom, When she came to me as a kitten, she was abused and I have tried to make her life as easy as possible (spoiled). After 8 years of love she is, I am glad to say mellowing out. My dear kitty still has issues but would not be considered adoptable so I have to stay healthy for us both. As a member of Dave's Garden, I fell in love with the Orchid Cactus when I first saw them. I will finally get to grow them. I also like having Tillandsias and will order a couple of large ones soon. I check out the pets, arts and crafts, recipes and anything to do with plants forums, a couple of times a day. Life is good.

Nice to meet you all,
Ivy

I am Kathy, living in Delaware where we do get cold winters, but not deadly cold like in some parts of the US. I've always liked plants but have really gotten into them since we moved to our house where I can have a veggie garden, flower beds and plants on the deck. My front window gets the morning sun, so I have lots of plants there! I've gotten into Christmas Cactus (blame my Mom for that!), in the last year or so, and have been collecting them at an alarming rate. Right now my front window has a spider plant, a goldfish plant, burgundy oxalis triangularis, a pony tail palm, a small terrarium from my brother, and a croton with other things mixed in (also from my brother). Soon, they will be pushed to one end so that I can set up my seed starting paraphernalia! I start most all of my veggies from seed, including squash, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini. I also grow ornamental peppers. Last year I tried Black Pearl and Bolivian Rainbow, in addition to my Medusas. I must say, I was most impressed with the Black Pearls. I saved plenty of seeds so that I can have them again! This year I'm adding Brazilian Starfish peppers (aka Atomic Starfish). I can hardly wait! My DH and I have 15 yo twin daughters (in separate grades). The one in 10th grade has started Drivers Ed! YIKES! LOL We have 2 cats, sisters, one all gray (Smoodge) and Slippers (white and gray with white back feet). We love them both and don't think it would be home without them.

I love to bake, do crafts and collect plants (LOL). I also collect vintage cookbooks and insulators. Here is a pic of me with my best bud Ginni doing Christmas baking in Dec of 2008! Yup, a real cookie clone army! LOL

Guess thats enough for now!
