Yes, I think your right resin... I remember young finches at the feeder at my office window with their hair allll messed up like that.
It was last spring/summer but I am not sure exactly. From the markings on the breast, I thought maybe finch, but the "horns" threw me....Thanks!
In that case, yep, juvenile House Finch, just out of the nest. My uncertainty at first was because it would be rather unlikely to find a fresh nestling in January!!
