Moisture in my raingage? Must be deer pee!

Don't know what else it could be. Haven't had any rain to speak of. We've had more deer than rain drops. Partly because of the droubt, but also because Texas Tech is building a new campus about 1/4 mile from our house in a field that used to feed a large herd of deer.

LOL ... feral dogs? a prankster friend? Nah ~ probably deer just messing with you.

Praying for rain for all of TX. Water is so important to sustain life.

ROFLOL!!!! Too funny Mary Ann!!! I almost drenched my keyboard with coffee! We just drove down to Austin this week and it sure looked barren and dry on the way. I can't wait to see if we are going to get some spring rains this year.

:o) Only moisture (except for some light sleet) we have had in my yard is from the dogs, possums, squirrels and neighborhood cats - not very good for the plants.

We got mizzle on our way back from Mathis tonight. I thought we were supposed to have rain. Mizzle is DH's word for that misty, drizzly stuff we've been getting instead of rain. I sure wouldn't want to be a salesman for raingages now.

I told DH tonight that this year we will absolutely be using soaker hoses for the garden and flower beds this year. I'm tired of watching my hard earned water evaporate as it flies through the air. Water evaporates as fast as money.

My DH got the water bill today and said it had a notice in there that if this pattern continued they would have to go to stricter water restrictions.

We need rain badly. We are still missing spring rains from two years ago and almost all the normal moisture from in between. Not even the deer get near our rain gauges, and we have a couple of those that sit on the ground! The deer have eaten my irises and daylilies off to the ground, however.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

They have mysteriously left my irises alone, but they harvested all my daylilies and even sampled my daffodils. They didn't eat the crinodonna (most of it froze though) or the phlox.

Oh no Pat...sorry to hear about the deer's chomping on the iris! Can you discourage them by planting some oregano or mint in among them? I don't think I would like living in the country, squirrels and herons are bad enough!
Sorry cross-posted. Hope you do get to see the DLs bloom, both of you.

Maybe rosemary. Someone in another thread said they were successful with rosemary as a deer repellent and it should not mind the arid conditions.

I used to have a large rosemary, but I had to dig it up because it was smothering a rose. I think I'm going to try a prostrate rosemary on a slope I have. But I know that deer if they are hungry enough will eat things that not only don't taste good to them, but really aren't even good for them.
