Is there such a name as Q.P. Doll?

Chichester, NH(Zone 5b)

I'm still fairly new to Tropical Hibiscus, I bought this at the USF Plant Sale over a year ago and it finally bloomed for me, it's gorgeous but I don't see it in the Plant Files so thought I'd ask if anyone had heard of it here, maybe it's got the wrong name. The tag reads Q.P. Doll.

I don't know the name, but it sure is a beautiful hibiscus. I love the colors and frilly petals! I hope someone recognizes it.

Q.P. Doll does exist! I found her on the International Hibiscus Society's website.

Thanks Barb, I wanted to add it to the Plant Files but wanted to make sure it's the correct name. That surely looks like it. Guess I'll add it. It's about to put out another bloom right now. Poor thing kept the bud during the lows down in the 30's last week. Hopefully she'll hold it again tonight as it's supposed to get down to 36.

I'm only starting out with Tropical Hibs so this is a nice surprise. Thanks again.

Beautiful bloom, whatever it is!

Welcome to the addiction! I now have about 24 plants, a little less than 20 different cultivars.

Marvelous hibiscus color and shape. Don't think I have ever seen one I like any more than yours.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you everyone for your compliments...

Beach_Barbie, I am just starting out but I have 2 hardy and 6 tropical....and I just ordered 2 from the co-op. It is very addictive. I'm always admiring every one elses in the forums....when you say cultivars what do you mean by that? I thought there was only hardy and tropical, excuse my ignorance.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Cultivar is simply the particular name of a plant. For example, your beauty is QP Doll. So.........that is the cultivar of tropical hibiscus you have.

Just like African Violets each have their own names.........registered .........Wrangler's Pink Patches would be an exact color, kind and leaves of an African Violet.

We have magnificent choices of tropical hibiscus where we live...........I bought over 10 of them in the fall and winter because they were selling them for 3.50 a gallon..........I can't wait for spring to come and go back and look some more.......

Here is what the dictionary says about the word 'cultivar'

Main Entry:

: an organism and especially one of an agricultural or horticultural variety or strain originating and persistent under cultivation

That's one of the thing I like the most of this forum, when somebody ask a question there are always wonderful people willing to help them with there knowledge, by the way astcgirl, that Q.P. Doll is really gorgeous, the time it took to bloom was worth it.

Thanks gessiegail for explaining, silly me should have known that.

I picked up 4 from HD at the end of last summer as they were 50% off, they started carrying tropical hibiscus, even found a "Voodoo Queen" amongst them.

WQP...yes your right....I always love how people here on Dave's are happy to answer any questions.

The reason I answer is because I love it when someone answer me! (LOL)

Wow, I'd love to find something like a Voodoo Queen at one of our box stores! The last two tropicals I bought were Nightmare and Irish Spring. They have the same parentage, but don't look alike!
Here's a pic of Nightmare taken last October. I was being artsy-fartsy when I took it, hense the other flower in the pic.

Very nice arrangement Barb, I love the dark colors. It almost has a coppery sheen to it. Very nice indeed!

I have "think pink" blooming right now also outside, these blooms are huge (although with the cold weather this one isn't as big as the others have been).
