Fire Caused by a Space Heater and a Goat
I try to only use closed systems like heating pads, hot rocks and the oil filled radiator type heaters. You can knock them about and pile straw on them and nothing happens. Look for the radiator things at yard sales, they are expensive as heck in the stores, but I've gotten great deals at yard sales and thrift shops.
I have one in the chicken coop right now and the peacock was actually sitting on it last night. It's on the lowest setting and is keeping it just above freezing in there with below 0 temps outside.

The worst part is, in other news reports on the same story, the people said the goats had kicked the same heater over before and started a fire earlier in the evening but they "put it out completely" and then went to bed and left the heater in with the goats.
There is something to be said for having a little common sense...

Yes i noticed it was your local news station My DH called me into our liveing room to see it but it was at the end. All i heard was it was a goat kicked over a heater and it was in iowa and i was worried it was you i know you have heaters in your barn.
I was relieved when i saw it wasn't you but thought i would post it here so others would be mindful of the dangers of space heaters.
My DH knows you very well Claire he refers to you as Claire the one with the marble fireplace.
You see back in the fall you took a pic of you in front of your fireplace. I noticed how beautiful it was and it looked marble to me. So i told my DH about the pretty marble fireplace you had and it stuck so now when i say Claire he will say OH yea she's the one with the marble fireplace.
He will even when i talk about your sheep to my son he will look at him and say you know thats Claire the one with the marble fireplace.
Oh Harmony, that's so funny! I don't think I have a marble fireplace - I will have to look when I get home. I think it's just tile. :-)
I have a ceramic panel heater in the coop, but nothing in the goat area.

It's screwed into the wall - the chickens can't kick it over! And if they did, it is not a fire risk because there are no exposed elements.
Sorry for the mistake about the fireplace but it's very pretty and it did look like marble.
Should i tell my DH to stop saying Claire with the marble fireplace it doe's please him so to say it.

It's funny how we remember people better when we associate something with them!
