Blackened salmon outside?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I want to prepare blackened salmon some how on our grill, briquettes. When I do this inside it takes forever to get the fish smell out of the house. So, just get a bunch of briquettes white hot and put my cast iron skillet over the heat? Actually, maybe I should get a skillet just for outdoor cooking because of the black smoke on outside of skillet.
