What do we have here?

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

I tend to neglect my garden in the winter. Walked out from this afternoon and was greeted by this site!!!! Because this winter has been so mild for us this year, my banana trees have leaf damage but have not died back. Tonight and tomorrow is supposed to be pretty cold , so I wrapped it up really well in blankets . Gonna try and keep it going.

Good luck, Lisa. My neighbor has 4 hands on his plant right now, as in past years, but they don't ripen because the cold whacks them - hope yours ripen!

San Andres, Peten, Guatemala

As I live in a Banana Republic I am obliged to produce bananas, chuckle. My senior tree is doing well and hopefully will eventually have 8 hands.

What great shots of bananas, you guys. Make sure you cover those beauties tonight, Lisa. I would love to see them make it okay.

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

I have it wrapped with 4 blankets. keep your fingers crossed. There is a waterpark nearby that wraps theirs with insulation like you use around a waterheater. what a great idea. His get huge!!!!!

Gainesville, FL

I feel your pain, its going to be COLD here the next 3 days and even after that a lot colder than it has been being. Can't believe it was about 80 just less than a week ago. The high tomorrow is only supposed to be 50. I HATE this

Bucyrus, OH(Zone 6a)

It is currently minus seven Fahrenheit here, and expected to go down to minus fifteen. :)))

Thank you for the pics of green and growing things. :)))

We got down to 35 here during the night - not quite freezing, but it's darned cold! I haven't checked the greenhouse - hopefully all the baby plants are ok.

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Here's a pic of my nanas, I didn't cover them so have no idea if they were damaged.

Oh wow.
Very nice. 28 degrees here.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Lisa, you couldn't get Michael to climb up there and cover them? LOL Maybe you should shinny up that banana stalk and cover them for sure tonight - supposed to drop down to 20 degrees here!

Gainesville, FL

It said 35 this morning but I think it was little colder than that here, as I have some frostnip on stuff that didn't have it yesterday. Tonight is definitely going to be a bee-atch, I've covered all I can, hopefully this will be the ONLY episode of this severe cold this winter.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

I understand this only happens in our area a couple of nights at a time and for only a couple of hours - is that normally the way it is in PCB, FL? It was
-2 degrees in Kansas City this morning, complete with snow - needless to say, I'm not complaining!

Gainesville, FL

Yeah I have lived here for going on 20 years and its only a few nights a year. Except one winter, I can't remember which one, it was a deep freeze with temps between 20-28 for like 5-6 night straight, and not just for an hour or 2 but for 6-8 hours each night. Of course that was the year I trialed Heliconia rostrata out in the yard, LOL

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Take a look at this mess!: Thank GOD I'm on the beach - I can't imagine how cold it will be inland. I came from Kansas City and am used to the cold, but with all our humidity here in PCB, this cold is REALLY bone-chilling to me!

Yah the jetstream has definitely relocated.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

I just checked the temp. in my yard and it's 30, so it didn't get as cold as I expected, thank goodness. Tonight, however, I think there will be a freeze. I have all the tender plants covered and will cross my fingers that they do ok.

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

25 here. Yuck.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Well, all the plants did fine - turned the heater on in the greenhouse Sat. nite, kept it at 57 degrees, and everything was happy - I am happy about it, for sure!

I hope everyone's plants did ok during the last cold spell. Another cold spell (mid 20's) is expected here on Tues.-Wed. early hours - I'm just going to leave the covers on the tender plants.

We didn't get as cold as was predicted - guess it's because I'm in a micro-climate, being near the water.

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

All the tips are brown, and plants look pretty ragged, from the wind, but think they'll make it, going to be below 55 for the next week, so have to keep all the orchids in the 2nd bathroom a while longer.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

It's suppose to be down to 30-40 in the next couple of days here. Ah, Paradise.... I'm inland so it will be interesting. My only saving grace is that I live on a small lake and it may keep the Boogy man away.
