Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm about to have another cow slaughtered and I want to get the most out of it, not as much burger this time, where can I find on line a chart that shows me the different cuts of beef I can get out of a cow?

thanks

Lol! Harm are you hungry by any chance?!

Sometimes we will make stew meat in place of ground beef. Are you doing the butchering yourself? We bring ours to a place that is also a USDA butcher shop and they are very helpful in showing what cuts we can get. We are present during the butchering and wrap the meat ourselves(saves abit of $$). So we can make decisions along the way.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

How do you get your cow cut up Sue?

what kinds of cuts do you go with

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

We do a variety of steak cuts, brisket, short ribs, roasts, sometimes we'll do a prime rib, stew meat, shanks and hamburg. Our butcher has been cutting meat for over 30 years so he's extremely helpful. Store bought beef just can't compare!

Even when it's enhanced with 'real beef flavorings'?...

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

what do you use the shanks in?

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

I roast them and use the bones for beef stock.

Ferndale, WA

Sue: How do you treat uninvited guests? I'm going to meet Harm and we are comming over. LOL Are you ready Harm? Haystack

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Make them eat till they can't move!! Then make them look at all my chicken albums! heehee!

Clarkson, KY

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Ok! Now we're talking! Let's make it a summertime BBQ! Can't you feel the warm summer sun, nice light breeze, flowers bobbing their heads, chickens chasing bugs, bbq sauce slightly dripping down your chin as you look for a napkin and hope no-one notices. Fresh corn on the cob, plate full of steamers you gathered from the shore that morning....

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I'M COMMING!!!!!!!! Make way!!!!!!

(Zone 7b)

I'll bring my DH he can BBQ the best wings you have ever ate. Don't forget your sun protection and bring a towel there may be a pool.
Claire no ducks in the pool i will make sure to have a small one for them ^_^

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Sorry no pool but only 10 minute drive to the best beaches in N.E.! We have plenty of sunblock though! Everyone must wear their best chicken hat to keep off the sun. lol! Sorry getting a visual!

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Silver Queen and King Is what I grew last year. We are planning on a much bigger plot this year for the corn. OMG the best ever corn I ever did eat.

Ferndale, WA

This is sheer torture: I'm reading these postings and all of a sudden I began to smell BEEF, really! No kidding I was thinking this dream is to real. Suddenly my D W Tell me she's doing country spare ribs. OH I thought I was dreaming.

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Oh, yea, nice long marinade and slow cooked so it just falls apart to the touch...

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

I haven't tried the Silver King but I absolutely love Silver Queen. This will be the first year for Kandy Korn.
What do you use to keep the corn borers out? We use mineral oil as soon as the silk appears and apply it weekly thereafter. Sometimes the little buggers still find their way but it seems to work pretty well. Abit labor intensive if you have a large plot of corn. Opps, sorry if I just ruined any appetites. :-)

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Yep had the problems with them last year also, I will try the mineral oil. There might be something else less labor intensive I will check and see. There has to be something. There just has to be something!!!!!!!!!
