Spider mites attacked my herbs! How to be rid of them??

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I have noticed these pests around the yard and our bug guy sprays the plants and it works. We don't spray around the edible plants though and I just found them in the herb area...yikes!! Is there some way to rid the herb and veggie area of them without pesticides or harmful substances when ingested? Thanks!!!

Spider mites hate to be wet...if you have a garden hose with a mist feature, mist them daily. Even a house plant mister would work if you don't have a lot of plants to do.

Thank you!!! I'll use the spray bottle on the inside ones and mist the outside with the hose! Blasted bugs! DH is very fond of his herbs for cooking! Thanks again!

I've also knocked them back with a spray of insecticidal soap or even a squirt of dish soap with water in a spray bottle. I figure any residue washes off in the next rain...

As suggested, start with water: spray plants with a forceful spray of water three times, once every other day. That should knock them off. If that doesn't work then hit them with the insecticidal soap.

Thanks!!! I'll let you know how it goes!

I use a mixture of garlic juice and hot pepper in water in a spray bottle for just about everything on the first try. It does a pretty good job on a lot of things.

Late last summer I had the same problem with a pineapple sage. It was so bad I thought there was no hope but I followed the advice given to me here on Dave's, severely pinched back the plant then gave what was left a strong spray from the garden hose especially on the underside, lol it was raining outside - I must have looked like a nut. The plant recovered and bloomed. It was as full as usual but it brought in the hummingbirds anyway. One heavy spray really did the trick but I did spray it on the underside just in case every week.

I had a problem with aphids on my herbs inside, so I ordered ladybugs which solved my problem. I'm not sure if there is a natural predator you can get for spider mites, but it might be worth looking into.
