This one is a duck pond resident at a nearby zoo. I was wondering if it is a Muscovy Duck?
Also, is there a name for that "red stuff" on the duck's face. I know that turkeys have it too; but it looks like some sort of deformity to me.
CLOSED: Muscovy Duck???
Yep, domesticated Muscovy Duck.
The ugly red facial stuff is derived from the small wattles that male wild Muscovy Ducks have, which is used in mating displays. To be honest, as seen here, it is a deformity, though all domesticated Moscovy Ducks have it. It may be related to the higher levels of sexual activity that domesticated birds are required to have in order to satisfy their owners' demands for higher egg-laying rates.

Sorta like the higher the redness, the higher testosterones level on these males?
Thanks again Resin. As always, you're a wealth of information.

That's what counts, and I as many others who appreciate you, Resin. Thank you.
