Butterfly Ginger Seedpod

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

Here is a seedpod on my butterfly ginger. Another one next to it has, I think, opened to show these red, soft seeds. I'm not sure if the red ones started out like this one, too. Do I wait until the red seeds get hard to plant them? And does the red color mean they are fertile?

Mine has some too. Its on a white butterfly ginger. Hope someone answers you. I wonder if they should be planted right away , or dry out first?

I would plant them now.

Look at this seed I just cut off the ginger! It was sprouting while still on the ginger!! This is new to me. This one has a tiny leaf on it and another seed was sprouting also.

A closer look at the two sprouting. I planted them and will continue to monitor their progress.

And this is them after I peeled open the pods a little. After this shot, I removed all the seeds to let them dry out.

Any chance the seeds can be started if collected last fall & dried?

M,
I don't know for sure, but I would plant them and just watch. Let me know. I would be interested to know for sure, too.

I'm not for sure if they will grow dried.Like she said all you can do is try it.You never know.

That is cool that they sprouted on the plant! I cut mine off and sent them to my mother. She wanted to try them and I have enough and will have to divide when it ever warms up lol.

This is the red seeds today. After a couple or so weeks of drying out, (they never really got hard), I planted these and just sat them outside under a live oak tree and forgot about them. Then today, this is what I saw! I have a bunch more doing the same thing.

Here's the little sprout that sprouted on the ginger. I must have knocked it over since his position has shifted, but he is still looking fine.
