My daughter sent me this link and said if I ever drive 3 and a half hours to see a bird she will commit me! GM

LOL

Interesting about the bird. Is this a sign of global warming?

Doubt it - more likely just an individual bird with a faulty migration instinct.

Global warming shows itself in other effects on birds (like whole populations of migratory species moving north a week or more earlier in spring than they used to).

We had (forgive me for not knowing the name) a teeny tiny northern owl family come down to Missouri in '95. I'm not sure if it was sub-Arctic, but I remember that they were from the far northern regions of the continent. That presaged the coldest winter in something like 50 years... If we had been smarter about that, we would have prepared for more cold than we had ever felt in our lives. As it was - we were sure that we were nuts for moving so far north from balmy Hawaii.

They had a story about it on the front page of the San Antonio Express-News the other day. Interesting! It's hard core birders mostly, like the one that flew from Florida. The park is now closed for several days for hunters, they said. Hope no birders show up in the meantime. That WOULD be sad...if someone drives from another state and then finds the park closed. I assume they're going to close off the area around the bird while hunting goes on, but I don't remember anyone mentioning it. I know that area...no pines or mountains there! There's a lake and flat land with smaller trees such as mesquite and hackberries.
