What is the optimum size for large Hib plants?
Pots what size
The idea with pots is you want them to be big enough to hold the rootball with a little room to spare, but you don't want tons of extra space because that can make it much easier to overwater. That's why if you have a plant that's going to get big eventually but is still small right now, it's best to put it in a small pot and work your way up one size at a time. So I'd just check to make sure that the size of the plant and the size of the pot look proportional to each other--it's usually pretty easy to spot a plant that's way too big or way too small for the pot it's in, but if you're somewhere in the middle where they look proportional to each other you'll probably be OK.
If that's not enough help, try posting a picture of your plant along with a couple of the pots you're thinking might be appropriate and people can do a gut check for you on which size ought to be best.
Thanks that is a big help, I have 40 Hibs coming in the spring, they are 4" and 6" plants, they will be grown in a tropical room, indoors, I am zone 4a. I am just trying to get ready for their arrival. Thanks
If they're in 4" and 6" pots now I'd plan to either leave them in the size pot they come in, or repot the 4" ones into 6" pots and the 6" into 8". I suspect you'll probably need to repot fairly soon--many times mail order places will try to keep things in smaller pots for a little longer since they're cheaper to ship. Most of the time when I get things from mail order they are about ready to be potted up to the next size. Then as they grow, just keep moving up one pot size at a time and they should be fine.
