Did somewhere here (watergardens) organize the Texas Waterlilly co-op last year? I was hoping that same person would pull it together again because it was such a great co-op. The prices and the plants were fantastic! I was hoping it could get started early so that they don't run out of too many of them before hand.
Who did the Texas Waterlilly co-op
Moodene did the co-op. It really was great, wasn't it! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/864954/
AMAZING! I was new to water gardening and now after a season of noticing prices and the quality of the plants out there i know a good thing now! My plants were big and thrived!
I was totally thrilled as well! I want to try a couple lotus this year, although I have no idea where I'll put them. LOL
I'm thinking of digging a bog myself . . .
Get them. You are a gardener, you can always squeeze in just one more -------
Ouch! Ann, you've twisted my arm, so I think I better agree with you, and order lotus (dwarf). LOL. Are you going to order some plants?
The tropical waterlilies I ordered last year are still alive and growing below the water's surface, although the pads and flowers on the surface turned to mush when we had a freeze a couple of week ago. Texas Waterlilies seemed to think they'd make it through the winter here okay though, so I've got my fingers crossed.
MM, a bog sounds so, so neat! Do you know what you're going to order this year?
Actually am running around the house digging in the couch cushions for change. I want one of everything! LOL
So is anyone going to run the co-op this year? I have room for a small bog in front of my house...would be a good fix until I can get the big koi pond in!
There is a tread with a woman's lotus bog pictures in it that is awe inspiring. The bog seems fairly easy with no real issues to worry about like koi . . . Let me have a look for that thread so you can see her amazing pictures.
My list of plants is far too big. I did write down what I like but not everything is offered if I am correct. I have to then look the plant up in my books to see the zone and how easy (or not easy) they are to grow. The TWL site does not have zonal info on every plant not does it tell you which are easier than others.
Does anyone have recommendations for a medium size pond? Mostly I am talking both types of waterlillys and lotus. However if you have a plant you can't live without I would love to know which one and why. Also, I am in zone 5 and similar zonal people would be gratefully appreciated!
Okay here's the thread: Water Gardens: uh-oh: Nelumbo seed looks bad... There is a woman there and her user name is Bwilliams and she has the most AMAZING PICTURES of her bog garden. Go and look-she is a wealth of information!

I remember that thread! Hubby and I talked over the ponding last night, we're putting off the big pond until 2010 to learn more and see what others in our zone are doing. The EIPS has twice monthly meetings beginning in March at member's homes so we'll get to see lots of ponds this year. I'm going to use the preformed liner I have now for the bog/water garden - I guess it is still more a water garden than a bog - and buy a 300 gallon Rubbermaid trough for Poppy the koi's new basement home. The preformed liner will be great for the water garden, the deepest part is 18" and the shelves are 12" so it will be easy to place plants. Digging the hole and leveling is going to be a pain, though, I imagine.
Today I'm going to look at water plants : ) I already have a lot of them saved to my blog, I think almost all from the Texas WL website.
TWL 's plants and prices are tough to beat.
Well...I ordered five lotus from Bonnie's Plants today! They will definitely take up all the space in that preformed liner (once it is in the ground) so I won't be ordering any water lilies. "Peaches and Cream" is a gorgeous one, though!

tetleytuna - Just how big is that couch?
Can I look under it too?
Let's hope that couch is big enough for all of us. Somehow I do not think we are all that good with the concepts involved in "restraint" and "right place before right plant" LOL
Right place before right plant? Never heard of that. I'd pretty much have nuttin.
Ha!!!! Now that I measured my liner, I think it is too small for five lotus - even though only two of them are "large." I'll figure something out : P
I'll probably have to get a whiskey barrel or something like that. Which will be fine, then I can always put a waterlily from Carolyn in there! Bwahahahaaaa....
Stupid winter.

"stupid winter"
I just cracked up when I read that. Had a mental image of a small child with arms crossed and a major 'tude going on. HaHa
That is about how I feel at this point!
The TWL co-op is up: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/944565/
