Help with names of nurseries along the Progresso border

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

A friend is coming down next week and we want to hit good nurseries along the way to Mexico in Progresso. I know there are great tropical nurseries down in the valley. Can some of you who live in the valley help me with names of nurseries and where they are located.
Thanks so much!

Valley Garden Center in McAllen is a good nursery. http://www.valleygardencenter.com/

Thanks so much. Do you know anything about the Caldwell's Jungle Nursery in Raymondville?
Thanks again................
Also, since you live in the valley do you know how far McAllen is from highway 77 near Raymondville or Progresso?

I love to go to Caldwells. They have 5 acres, but suffered some damage during hurricane Dolly. The place is sort of like well, a jungle! The people there are very nice and prices are good.
There are some other local nurseries in San Benito, but if you aren't familar with the area, you will probably get lost trying to find them.
Coming from Raymondville down 77 to 83 and across to McAllen is probably 50 miles. When going to McAllen, I take the back way, across 107 to Edinburgh (there are little nurseries along that route). It's 2 lane most of the way and goes right into downtown Edinburgh, but one could take any of several roads south to the border. Expwy. 83 toward McAllen still has some road construction. Be careful on 77 going thru Combes (south of Raymondville, before Harlingen), it's a speed trap.

You are so much help I can't thank you enough..............I am going to copy and paste this for teh trip......I also thank you for the shortcut to McAllen...........

We have a speed trap in Refugio, Texas that is a disgrace.......thanks for the heads up going through Combes.............

Oh yes, I know all about the one in Refugio! There is also one in Rivera. Is TAft close to Refugio?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I go through Refugio on my way to Houston. Taft is 5 miles to Sinton .........then turn and Refugio is about 30 minutes from Sinton. There is not one nursery or anything to see from Sinton all the way into Houston on 59 now. The freeways have taken over........That is why I like the 'back roads' of Texas.

I love the back roads too. I used to visit a friend outside Houston and would take the back way from Tivoli up the coast to her house. There are several little nurseries up that way.

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

We lived a little ways from Tivoli (pronounced Tie-VO-li by the locals along 35) when we lived in Jackson County at Cape Cararancua. Had a couple of good nurseries in Pt. Lavaca.

I am just hoping that the weather allows us to go. One minute they say it will be freezing, icy and cold on Sunday morning next week...........I even looked up Raymondville to see what the temps will be and it said 37 on Monday night (I think)

Betty and I do this nursery hunting all the time for many years. Yes, the back roads are always the best.
