Seeds for Newbies

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I thought of this while gathering seeds today (no, I'm not dangerous when I think!!!) I will give to "newbies" or anyone else that doesn't have many plants, a collection of annual and perennial flower seeds like melampodium, malva, hardy hibiscus, abutilon, etc. (easy to grow from seed) for an SASE. All you have to do is promise (honor system here) to share next year with another new person. If you want 3 packs of seeds use 45 cents postage (.11 for the extra thickness) or for 10 packages I think it's about .80-$1.00.
I thought this would be a good way to get everyone started gardening and the following year they would have seeds of their own to trade.

Good Idea, Susie. Wish I had seeds to contribute!

Calla, you are indeed God's Gift to people who come in contact with you! You are INDEED LOVED.

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

How new do you have to be, Calalily? I've been here nearly a month. I know if you look at my page, it seems like I must be here longer. I've been busy. :) My husband thinks my obsessive-compulsive disorder is running rampant with all the cuttings I'm taking, trying to collect seeds, potting up garden "volunteers", etc.

Someone sent me a bunch of hosta seed pods and I hope to plant them and offer the babies here next spring and give them to people who don't have much (locally). None of the hosta seeds were named, so it's not for the hosta purists, but for folks like me, just getting the chance to bring something beautiful into this world is a treat.

If you are contacted by other people who have a greater need than I do, please take care of them. I receive many blessings each day and I know that God will provide whatever I need.

Thanks for your generosity. It's people like you who attracted me to DG in the first place.

I have been a member of this site for about a month or so. I read the forums but have been shy about posting. I cant stand it any longer, i have to speak up & say that you are just the greatest bunch of people i have ever run across on the web! Your generosity is overwhelming. I am very proud to be a part of this circle of people, and i plan to be more involved. I do not get to be on the web much, but when i am, i go straight to this site! Keep up the good work folks!

WONDERFUL IDEA!I am new as well and do not have much but I made a promise that next year I will be sharing like crazy. My neighbor did point out that I do have a few things after all that I could share right now. I live in BC Canada and I have access to pretty ferns and ivy. If this is any help to anyone please let me know. I will be more than happy to share what I have.
please contact me at jj909c@home.com
if you would like any ivy or ferns....I know it's not much to offer but it's a start.
I think the idea of everyone committing to share whatever is shared with them is simply beautiful.
If you have anything you care to share with us please send it to

Hello, I've been trading for about 3 months now but only found Dave's last week. I don't have my trade list here yet. I have been getting most of the few trade seeds I have from nieghbors, roadsides and a few from generouse traders. I would love one of your 10 packs. I had a lot of Mixed color pink foxgloves but have been trading them and have sent a lot of them for SASE to new gardeners. :-) I do still have quite a lot of Dark pink/Fuchia-ish color Foxglove seeds left for SASE or trade. Most of my other seeds I would prefer to trade. I am hopeing to have a bigger selection to trade next year and more to offer for SASE to new gardeners. Take care, Penny

I'm a newbie both to Dave's and gardening. This year started with some easy flowers in just a few areas and am already gathering seeds, so I do have a small supply if anyone's interested. If I can grow these, anyone can! Morning glory, nicotiana, portulaca, Impatiens balsamina (which a kind member of DG helped me to ID), and marigolds, of course :) Cala, this was such a nice idea and I too have to say how much I appreciate this website. Everyone is great! I'd love some hardy hibiscus seeds and will send you a SASE. Thanks so much!

OK, I'm back safe and sound from Jody's (too close to DC for comfort) and just now getting around to answering everybody. If y'all want these seeds and haven't emailed me for my addy (for SASE)you can still email me.

Hi I am new here too! I have done 1 trade and 1 sase here and have been trading for about 1 month on another site. Will take most anything you are willing to give me and will be more than happy to share next year! Everyone here is so great and so nice. I hate to be pickky but I don't have room for anything that gets too big (i.e. lilacs or anything that big). I will send you a SASE. Thank you very much.

Murfreesboro, TN

Would like to participate. Please send address, and I will send SASE.
Thanks Cala!

OK, I'm packing them up now. The wet weather has put me a little behind, plus we've been really busy at the green house. I've gotten lots of SASEs and will hopefully be sending everything out first of the week.

Hi Calalily
If the offer still stands (you got quite a response!) I would also be interested. I am a newbie also and will be happy to share my wealth next year with the 2002 newbies.

Thank you.
