Tiny spots on my leaves

(Zone 7a)

Hello, everyone!

I noticed some tiny spots on my leaves this morning and do not know what they are. Can anyone hazard a guess? They are tan or yellowish and are on all the leaves. They rub off easily.

They look like aphids to me though I usually see these on the underside of leaves.

(Zone 7a)

That's what I thought, at first. But they're too small to be them. I think.

(Zone 7a)

I pulled out my eye-loop and they are aphids. What do I do now?

Soap solution or horticultural oil if you are organic.Almost any insecticide if you use chemicals.Repeat a couple of times to be sure you got the eggs.If you use oil, spray late in the day so it doesn't burn the leaves.
one other note...damaged leaves, from whatever cause,do not recover so you might as well remove and destroy them before spraying. You might get better spray coverage that way. From the pictures yours don't look too badly damaged so might still be of value to the plant.
yet another note...soap or oil has the added benefit of destroying most mites as well.Insecticides only cause mites to party and produce more mites.

LOL!

kwanjin, if you do decide to keep the leaves, spray the underside of the leaves throughly.

LOL G2S! These are inside plants and I've been keeping a watchful eye on them. The leaves are not damaged. I took them into the tub and washed off what I could see and will spray tomorrow if I see more.

Anything else I should watch for?

BTW, these were gifts from some of you wondeful people here! I've been showing DH what they'll look like when they bloom and he can't wait, either!

THANK YOU!!!

while you are on this pesty topic, I have noticed something like white cobwebs ver small but damaging - would the soapy water work??? these are not on the leaves but wjere the leaves join the stems.

seemama thats is either spider-mites or spiders lol . freaked out thinking i had mites and upon examination i found a big white spider eating all the aphids and fungus gnats that came near my brugs . they are inside . so i let him live amongst my plants . and i have an almost non existent bug problem . we also have house centipedes and i let them live because they eat annoying bugs too . dont tell my dh he screams like a little girl when he sees them .

Concord, CA(Zone 9a)

LOL , screams like a girl. LOL

LOL I liked that too.. I too have two spiders in my basement garden, one is white and the other is a fuzzy little black jumper .. he is my favorite.. ;D

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

yah those are cute . one time dh and his mom were carrying a dresser and she said eww a spider and dh dropped the dresser and ran . i was like i cant watch this and went in . lol

(Zone 7a)

Y'all are too funny! If I could find my white spider, I'd put him in with the brugs.

Kissimmee, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks all you arachnid fans, I am still going to do the soapy water thing - just in case! we sometimes get black round things with a lttle red spot on top and brown ones too - sorry but I get the pest control round pretty quick otherwise I would be happy to let you have them!

Concord, CA(Zone 9a)

LOL I can't believe how may people, men included are terrified of bugs. My macho DH trys to act brave, but he runs the other way when he see a spider, and trys to act like he didn't see it if I say something or laugh.

(Zone 7a)

I love spiders. They do so much for us, inside and outside. I just don't want them on me. ☺☺☺

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

that reminded me of this really funny story . im not that scared of bugs unless im surprised by them . my x dh and i lived in this place with a giant tree right by the front door . it was totally infested with brown june bugs and cicadas it was about 5 yrs ago . they would tap the house and buzz all night long any way , he walked in the door under that tree and there was a huge i mean huge (seriously the biggest spider ive ever seen to this day ) on his shoulder ! he didnt know . so i screamed and ran in the other room with out telling him why . so he followed me and was like what ! what! i couldnt get the words out i was just pointing . LOL he turned around (later he told me he thought there was a robber behind him LOL) i said look ! and he started jumping and dancing and spinning around wiping his shoulder . i was laughing so hard i t hurt .

I went in last night to check the brugs in the stairwell closet, I have a light in the ceiling, and a tall old standup lamp without a shade on a box on the floor.. brugs are on shelves on one wall, on the floor between and infront of the shelf, hanging from a clothing rod, and on a damaged huge speaker box standing upright with a flat tray with a lip on it..
a little itty bitty fan is blowing below the tall lamp on the box. I reach up to turn OFF the ceiling light and I stop and see some things other than the fungus gnats flying around .. three white looking specks of dust they looked like to me and I wear VERY thick trifocul glasses and I am looking up and down trying to get a good view of them, but they were swinging away from the dang fan.. finally it dawned on me to turn OFF the fan... and there are three teeny tiny white spider babies spinning webbs over the stand up light and under the first shelf.. I was like, whoa! I just saw a post about spiders and things on our brugs.. well, I let them be cuz I have a terrible problem with those little black flying things, and I have yellow sticky paper everywhere, and they get so covered up .. I am very grateful to know I have some help in the Brug closet now ... I did notice one of the plants has a few "weird" looking leaves, and I can't see so assuming they are mites..

seemama: I love that spider! only in florida will you see the most exotic looking critters ;) great photo!

(Zone 7a)

Love it!!! He looks like he wearing leg-warmers! LOL

Kissimmee, FL(Zone 9b)

I confess - I didn't take that pic - DH did, I could't get it in focus, and I think your right about the leg warmers - somebody must have told him about the cold spell on the way - hasn't got here yet!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

thats okay.... have him take more pics! LOL was wondering how the brugs are doing with the spots?

(Zone 7a)

I don't see any more aphids on them. I'm keeping a close eye, just in case. I didn't lose any leaves, either.

They look great! YAY! I was worried.. thanks for letting us know.. now I am going to go inspect my plants again..

Kissimmee, FL(Zone 9b)

Mine definately have got rotten aphids - big ones at that - I know everything is bigger in America - but do you have to include aphids??? my English ones were quite small in comparison - I suppose it is easier to see them here!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

seemama... sic some spiders or lady bugs on them... they will take care of them for ya!

Kissimmee, FL(Zone 9b)

I think all the spiders and ladybugs are so well fed in Florida they just haven't got space for any more aphids - I shall resort to the old method of soapy water, and wash them off - at least they will be nice and clean aphids!

(Zone 7a)

LOL
