i made chow mein in my new slow cooker

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

this recipe is from the book that came with my new toy

1 medium onion cut into 1/4 inch slices
1 carrot, cut into small dice
about 7 stalks of celery cut into thin strips
3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts cut into thin strips
1 small pork loin cut into thin strips (optional, but it was great)
6 cups of chicken stock
boiled rice
3 tbls soya sauce

brown the pork and chicken in a fry pan. place all ingredients into to cooker and put on high for 4 hours. just before the 4 hours are up add the soya sauce and then spoon 3 tbls of corn starch into a bowl and add 1/4 cup of milk
and add it to the pot and stir until it thickens. pour over cooked rice and you are all set.

a little note here - i don't think the cooker gets hot enough for the corn starch mixture to be very effective. next time i will pour the contents into a large pot and heat it up on high until it starts to boil a little then add the cornstarch mixture.

it came out great
