spell check language

DH bought me a laptop. When I click on Spell Check, it is "Eastern European," so doesn't recognize English. It's a new computer from Best Buy and had been checked out by Geek Squad, which made back-up disks. Short of taking it back to store, is there a way I can easily change the language my laptop will recognize? I'm too old to learn another language.....
