Got my Bater Blanket Done!

(Zone 7b)

After 8 hours a whole spool of thread and a partial nervous break down it's done.
For a non sewing persom like me it went pretty well just looked at my material and figured it out.

I'm not a measurer kind of person so i just cut and sew sounds pathetic don't it.
(wait about posting until i get the pic of the back on here "ok")

Heres the back i just put a piece of cotton cord threw the hem thingy on top and drawed it tight and tied it. I just used safety pins to close it had to look 30 minutes to find 3 of those and it turned out real well.
Kinda proud of myself ^_^

I do have a question what can i do to keep the batting which is 6 layers of that felt stuff they make cozys out of from shifting. It's sewed to the cover on both ends but i'm afraid it might shift over time in the middle?
(yall can post now)

great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok you can "quilt" it, just sew (did you say 7 layers of the batting stuff?) may have to do it by hand if it is that many layers. just a simple stitch. All the way around it.

(Zone 7b)

Kinda like they did old quilts with the string pulled threw and tied would that work?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

yep you could do that to
you would want to quilt it in some way to make sure when you wash it the stuffin does not move.

(Zone 7b)

Thanks luvs i will fix it before i use it.

Always up for some silliness...in a good cause, of course...

(Zone 7b)

Well i'm now up to 46 eggs time to get the bater ready and warm it will take couple days for me to get it stable.
This should really help it took me a week back in the spring to get it stable and i think it was because of not enough insulation on the top hatch.

I'm so happy glad things are good here at Daves and good here at my house Too.

Gettin my flock back on track and my health too ^_^

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Great job Harmony! It looks great!!! Who said you couldnt sew?? You are a natural.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Wow, that's a great idea Harmony! Looks like you are a sewin' pro! I just love the crock on your shelf in the first picture with the spigot on it. Really nice.

(Zone 7b)

Claire theres a story attached to that crock.
As most of you know they are very expensive well i stopped at a yard sale and there it sat not a nick, crack or scratch. I prepared for the worst and ask how much is this lady looked and said how's $3 i thought i was missing something. I said did you say $3 and she said sure and i said how much for the cake plate (antique) oh $2 she said.
I scratched my head as my husband bought a new grill, saw and smoker for $3 each and i secured a stereo for $5.
I found out a while later that she and her husband were seperated and he was out of town and as revenge she sold all his stuff while he was gone. YIKES

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Oh my goodness! You got lucky and so did your husband! I feel kind of bad for the guy but nothing can be done about it! Your lucky day!

Harm: Your bator looks so comfy all wraped in that lil blankie you made for it. OK you fooled me. Why does a bator need a blankie? I'm such a bator novice, and I am probably showing it by my question. Hope you don't mind, but I really don't quite get it. And yes theres so much more that I don't get either. Haystack.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Haystack,
As with my brower top hatch bator it is very hard to keep temp in the silly thing. With a blankie we are hoping that it will help to keep temps a bit more steady.

(Zone 7b)

Thanks for giveing Haystack the answers Luvs just been crazy busy today.

Haystack i have a top hatch incu and it really is hard to get it to hold a temp. I had heard if you put a blanket around it helps it hold the temps better.
Got it on and heating up right now i do have the humidty to high going to be adjusting for couple of days. Need to get it all just right then in go my eggs and then the nerves of waiting 21 Days!!

Ferndale, WA

Thanks Harm and Luvs: I am so new to bators that I don't know one from another, and I guess I just assumed that they all adjusted themselves after you set the temp. You women do some strange things, no offense intended, so I thought maybe it was just a woman thing. Thanks again for the info. Haystack

Wharton, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks haystack for asking the blanket question. I too was wondering why. I thought that maybe it was for temp control but now I know.

Clarkson, KY

Hay, you should be OK until we start settin' -We'll try to scream a warning!!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh my gosh, I LOVE the fabric!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

I do too just hope it doesnt entice the eggs to grow up to be them..............ROOS!!!!!!!!!!!

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Ahhhhh! No, think girly thoughts!
Thats great Luvs!!! Remember, be strong tomorrow!
;)

(Zone 7b)

Luvs i love that material i saw that at walmart they had about 3 different one's.

Alas i'm cheap and practical and thought it cost to much and besides nobody see it but me.(sigh)

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

I had that fabric already. I was going to make a quilt out of it but decided to do the "chick crib wrap" When I was making it yesterday my daughter thought I was making bumper pads for a baby crib. I told her yep my chick crib lol. I am working on one now for a doves, they are messy, throwing their food all over the floor, so I am going to make a wrap for the bottom of the cage. Around the edges. I think my doves are coming of age, they look like they are trying to nest.

(Zone 7b)

Luvs that is just what mine looked like when it was done a baby bumper pad LOL.

It was real warm here last week and all my pigeons and doves thought it was spring. They was all cooing and growling sounded like one of those wild life tapes. It was 28 this morning BBBRRR

Yes these diamond doves get on my last nerve with they seed throwing.

Good Luck with your Doves.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

got the bator up and running, I have 3 thermometers in there and guess what? YES each and everyone is different. It was different by 5 degrees now I have it within 2 degrees. I guess I can deal with that.

(Zone 7b)

Yes! Mine is still cattywonk Acu is 100 to 101 Brower is 99.5 my humidity was in the 30s i've brought it up to the 40s and going to keep it there.

What are you going to run your humidity at?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

lol was wondering that myself? 45 maybe???? I now have the temp with in 1 degree. still air running at 100.7 and 99.5. Humidity at 35 right now need to up it a bit

(Zone 7b)

I been confused on the humidty been reading alot about dry incubation. Then theres the 50% others say to have it at.
I thought i would keep it in the 40s i have no earthly idea what it was when i hatched in the spring. So i'm doing this blind & stupid.

Course then i'm afraid my eggs will dry out to fast at 40? but then theres that drowning thing folks talk about with high humidity?????

{{{{{HELP!!!}}}}}

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

yea I did that also kept the humidity low and had hatching problems, chicks stuck to the shell. AND the smell...........ughhhhhhhhhhhh. The other bator was at 50 % most of the time and had no problem with them hatching, now I am not saying that some didnt drown. I didnt crack them open. I plan to get some cheap oh eggs tonight and go from there. It is a test to me until I get good at it. I better real fast I have some I am bidding on and I would hate to lose 80 bucks from my stupidity. Shelia made me go there and BID. :)

(Zone 7b)

Decisions.....Decisions.......And 80 BUCKS *THUD*

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

lol
they are very coveted birds I want. A friend of mine that is an enabler sent me there. She wants them too.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Got 2 doz of RIR eggs to hatch. I am truly amazed at how this chick crib wrap is working. One thing tho I didnt wrap it all the way around I left about 12 inches off so that I could use the temp adjuster. I also have it in my bathroom, as it was in my living room last time and the temp in there just flux to much.

Going to put eggs in this afternoon, the humidity is at 54 % I want it just a little lower than that.

(Zone 7b)

My Blanket goes all the way around my Temp Is 99.5 brower, 100 acu humidity is at 47% added a little water to bring it up a little.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Harm do you know what the temp should be in a still air?

(Zone 7b)

I just read on a site 101 to 102 in still air at 50 to 55% humidity.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

that is what i thought thanks. Mine is at 100.6 right now will adjust it. Humidity is just right.
