I have this request in to the handyman forum but have had no responses (other than to go here), so don't know if any of you guys can help or not. My DH bought gourds from our local Amish so he can put them up for martin nests. What he wants to know is - does anyone have any ideas for a pole (that he can mount the 6 gourds on) that can easily be taken down for cleaning the nests? Maybe one with some type of bracket or pulley ? We are getting too old to climb ladders !!
purple martin house ideas?
Here is a link to a site that might interest you. http://www.sk-mfg.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc
also, try PMCCA.org where there is a forum that lot's of martin enthusiast post pics of their martin houses, etc.
These gourd racks are very nice!
Walmart sells a pole.
Purple Martin house's have to be quite high;don't they?
The pole is put into a shaft (another short pole) in the ground. This makes it "easy" to lower it down in winter to clean it.
those ARE very nice, but I think he was wanting something he could build himself. I don't know if he can tell by that pic how to make one himself. thanks for the trouble though !
