i don't have baby pics of him on my new comp so these r him older i took today. he is spangled in the front and so unique looking with silver laceing on other parts. i know what i was told the eggs were but he looks like another breed to me i want to know what breed u all think he is?? he is a crested breed also.
thanks for any help,
silkie
what breed is this roo???
Isn't that a Spitz?
Appenzeller Spitzhauben
Appenzeller, spitzhauben?? Don't know, Silkie. That comb is funky. Doo is wild, but...
Spitzhauben was my guess.
all eggs were to be buff laced polish, she sent eggs from all her polish pens. none have looked like polish except 3 crested ones. he is one, one died at hatch and the girl i lost when it hit freezeing here. the other 2 were choc color and a single comb and a weird comb on one no clue what it was i sold them for pets way back. i thought they was all very poor pet quality and poed at the trade. he improved some as older so i kept him. she swore she sent me all polish eggs but i have never seen polish look like these have and i have raised them for years and many color variations.
i've been sick and not over to the adult pens for awhile and he has really grown!! he is in my mixed pen for grow outs and low peck order birds. i thought he was a spitz today when i saw him too. looking at feathersite i'm not sure i think they r nonbearded he is dang close, i thought he was a pet quality silver laced polish but it doesn't all match up on him either to be purely that it's why i asked. polish is not spangled as he is they r only laced. i have never seen a comb like that either. if he is a spitz i'd like to get a flock going for him. if he is a poor polish he will be sold for a pet to make room for more grow out futer breeders.
It looks like an Appenzeller Spitzhauben to me.

He is um... unusual looking. We are looking in our chicken books now my youngest son is still laughing since he saw the roo's picture.
oh he should see all my exotic show birds he'd really die laughing, lol. i think the roo above beats funky over the showgirls, rotfl but i'm not sure just yet, lol.

Thank you for the pics what is the first one? We have been fortunate enough to have all sorts of chickens. One year I ordered 30 straight run chicks 3/4 of them were male. I couldn't keep them all but some were sure beautiful and some were really funny. My son's hen was a black polish but it got stepped on by one of my horses and died. I really get a kick out of chickens they are a blast to watch.
Hi Silkie! I'm not sure about that Roo but he looks very much like my white polishcrested Roo except he has much more spangle than mine. I have six polish crested of which two are Roos, one white and one black with white crest. There ok but when it comes to the crested breeds my favorites are my Crevecouers.
i posted on byc and someone who also got eggs from same breeder sent me a reply via pm. the breeder lied it is a silver laced polish crossed spitz and the choc babies that hatched with them i was right not even a polish breed they were a single comb breed.
i have raised many colors of polish and black crevs. i only have w/c black bantam polish other than him now come spring i will be adding more crested breeds. my favs r sultans and houdans.
Guess that explains why he's not quite standard anything...pretty though.
Yes! After looking all over trying to find a comb like that.. then carefully looking at what looks like it is trying to be lacing on his wings.. I was curious too!
Is that a seller we need to be aware of Silkie? I sure wouldn't want to raise something for that long and still not be able to find out what it is!
I mean.. he is darling... no offense lil guy.. but hey.. I want to get what I pay for!
ZZ's Thats a great point, and If I were Silkie I would be put out. Hate dealing with persons that can't be trusted. I'd much rather have a happy customer than a lousy couple of bucks. Haystack
i totally agree, i sent show stock 2 times to 2 other people to get her PURE BUFF LACED polish eggs twice as a b -day presant for my husband. yes she is on my bucket list for a garbage breeder- perfectly polish.
instead i got hatchery quality silver laced mutts and choc barnyard mixes and half unfertile eggs some of which were rotten. had i known she was like that i'd of never in a million years even thought about excepting her offer and putting mine up. there is nothing wrong with those breeds if u r wanting them and u know what u r getting but u all and everyone else knows i show my birds i don't have room for anything i can't show or breed and mutts just have no houseing here for them or fit into the flocks.
even when i called her on it on day of hatch she refused to make the deal right and send what she was suppost to. instead she told me i was crazy and i didn't know my breeds they were pures ect ect. there was no way her roos can jump fence so there was no mistake, i mixed them with my stock in the bators when moveing eggs ect. haha ya know what's funny about that i have nothing silver laced or spandled or choc colored. also i work for the dept of ag in poultry that was like a slap in the face. i can't do my job if i don't know breeds i need to know all that for all my paperwork and sample collections. i may not know every breed but most and i'm not crazy i've been right all along she lied to me and many others and they got stuck with unwanted stock too. please do not ever deal with perfectly polish and don't let her scam or burn anyone else again.
silkie
I can't stand a crooked person like that deliberatly cheat you then act like you don't know what your talking about. What an insult!!
I had a man try to convince me he had serama's when i saw it there was no mistakeing the short legs and the upright tail of a Japanese bantams. I said those are Japs he said ma'am you don't know your birds i said i most certainly do and walked away.
I was thinking maybe a cross between a Spitzhauben and a Barthuehner, but I could how a Spitz and polish cross might look like that.

Sorry you were deceived and did not get the ones you wanted. Still, your roo is a very attractive bird, and I'm sure *he* thinks he's studly.
yes, i've actually grown to love him and he is very beautiful, i haven't decided what to do with him. i may build on and keep him in a pet pen for the kids. yes that is what cross he is the breeder owned up to it to someone else that got eggs from her.
it just makes me mad someone would do that there was no reason to lie to me or anyone else and she had no right to false advertise what she had just to get what she wanted from others, she has done it with ones she has sold also. as a reputable breeder that really urks me, i stand behind my stock 100% and if there was a mix up, they were mixed rather than pures or wrong color sent ect by god i'd resend eggs at my cost in a heartbeat includeing extras to make sure i fixed my mistake and be apoligizeing out the wazoo. i just don't see how she can sleep at night knowing she is purposely decieveing people it's just wrong. i see she has been banned there, wonder why,lol i guess someone else complained before i got the chance too.
He is a very handsome interesting looking roo. I'm sure the kids will enjoy him.
It appears to me that woman has no integrity and has no business selling eggs. She should have fixed the problem and apologized. But you can be proud silkie that you do have integrity and trustworthy. That goes a long way in this life!
Sue :-)
You could always start a new breed the "mohawks"
lol
i got another pm it explains more, i didn't know the breeder was a 15 year old girl till just an hour or so ago. that definately explains things and i understand more. it's the second kid who has burned me there.
thank u sue, that really means alot to me. when it comes to my flock i'm my own worst critic, i put alot of heart and dedication into them as well as many other things. i'd never do that to someone else i just don't see how someone else could even if they r a kid at that age they should know better. i'd of not had a prob if she'd of just said so up front i would have waited for other eggs from someone else.
yes my 5 kid's love all our animals the freakier the better, rotfl. mabe i can find him some silver laced polish girls to keep him company in a trio pen stead of takeing up a big breeding flock pen so i can get rid of the mixed pen to use for longtails i want to get. hmmm. yes one of their fav breeds is my polish so they would be thrilled!!
Well, that explains a lot, but that kid needs to be more sensitive to the BIRD's future.
and .. I hesitated to say it.. but I just love him... and that "sea creature" he is sporting for a comb..
I totally understand them having to be a part of the plan... I can see I'm going to be critical too.. If they are not productive in some way, they just take up precious space, money, time and work... not to mention emotions.
Although I am going to have some for just pets, that serve no purpose but to have a good life and love me back. Heaven only knows what I will end up with.. My brother said I was on a mission to get the "freakiest looking chickens on the planet"
You have the perfect roo for me. LOL
And what is a 15 year old doing biz without supervision? There should be SOME kind of adult supervision at that age.. JMHO
I wish I lived closer I would take him in a heartbeat. Silkie what breed is the chicken in the first picture you posted?
thanks,
Lisa
Wow, 15 years old. ZZsBabies, I was thinking the same thing. Her parents must know what she's doing. She needs the proper guidance hopefully she hasn't learned this behavior from her parents.
lisa what pic? the roo we r talking about? he is spitz cross silver laced polish or the pic starting the other breeds? white hen that is naked neck is one of my showgirls. if that is not which u r asking what color is it? sorry haveing a blonde moment, lol.
she got banned for other reasons and from what i heard i asume her parents don't know what she is doing or don't care cause she aparently is not supervised at all. i feel sorry for her a good parent would check on their child and set limits and know what their children r doing. the internet is a danager to children who have total freedom and people r stupid to allow it, we need to protect our children in cyber space there is always wack jobs out there and u just never know.
So true.
Too bad she wasn't in 4-H or another organization that could show her the right way to conduct business. It would be a positive learning experience then.
My DD is 17 and I still don't let her have free access to the internet. I don't have control outside of the house but at least here she is monitored. I've talked to her and her friends several times on the dangers of the internet and anytime something is on the news, I use it as an example that mom isn't paranoid!
Silkie was this girl from Ga.
nope CT
Silkie, Yes I'm asking about the white one with the naked neck. What breed is that one? That roo has caused so much confusion!
lol, yes he has. i see she is un banned so i sent her a pm and so far no replies so we shall see what she does. i asked for replacements. i'll let u know if she makes it right, i'm a fare person i will give her another chance to make it right and then i'll go from there.
the breed of the white hen is - 11th generation showgirl. showgirl is the name of the breed. cotton is one of my best showgirls that is white but i also have them in blue, splash, and like a red/partridge. i'm hopeing this year to add buff and blacks also.
Just wondering i know a 15yearold on BYC that deals with a auction i know to have questionable chickens.
