Questions on old bulbs

Chandler, AZ(Zone 8b)

I have a bunch of seed packets and bulbs that I have bought over the last few years. I went thru them when I moved to Phoenix and threw out any that were obviously rotten and gave away a bunch more that won't grow here. I have a few left. Is there anyway to tell if the bulb is still viable, or at least definitely not worth digging a hole? I also wondered where I would find info on which bulbs need a hard freeze to grow and which don't . I know tulips and daffodils are pretty impossible to grow here without keeping them in the freezer between seasons.

HI AMfm I grow daffs here so it is not impossible. Tulips do not unless your are growing a species tulips. What bubls do you have left to plant? My garden is filled with quite a few varieties of bulbs.

I have some hyacinth which I was thinking I would plant indoors, some glads and some dahlia's. I also have some crocus I was going to give to my dad who lives in Prescott. I know glads and dahlias grow here, and those bulbs I bought last summer/fall so they should be fine. The hyacinth I have had for a couple of years tho. The bulbs are still firm with no visible rot, but it's been a long time since I've done alot of gardening (I've been renting for years), and I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something in checking the bulbs.

I have Hyacinths in the ground here. I need to check and see if any that I planted at the end of 2007 are coming up. My fall crocus have already bloomed. Someone gave me a dahlia tuber but it started sprouting in late November and froze witht he frost we had over Christmas. Glads you can plant at anytime.

Glad you are able to start gardening again. We are having a spring swap will you be coming?

I might. I'm not sure I would have anything to swap tho, some agaves I was given and a Christmas cactus that should belong to someone else. It hasn't bloomed since I bought it years ago and I've thought it was giving up the ghost on several occasions. I just don't know what to do with it.
