Alerting all Hibuscus Addicts!!

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

Of course, I myself am not an addict (I'm not, I'm not, I'm not - it's our mantra, right Cat??)

Hidden Valley Hibiscus opened their store at 3am this morning for 2009 orders. Some beauties are already sold out, so rush on over to www.hiddenvalleyhibiscus.com and get your orders in. Yep, I set my alarm and placed my order ;-)

Also, I see that Matt Martindale is taking his 2009 orders now too, and he's also got some real beauties. Rush over to www.hibiscusplace.com to check them out. Yep, I sent him an order too (*sigh*). And, to think after moving (again) about 250 potted plants this past fall, I swore I wouldn't buy any more plants in '09. Hmmmm, one resolution down.

Has anyone heard lately from Robert? I just sent him an email, so hopefully all is well with him (let us know if you're out there Robert!), and his store will soon be open as well.

See I told you I'm not an addict ;-)

I already got my HVH order in too--I didn't know they were starting orders today but fortunately I'm on their email list so I had a message from them and was able to get in at 7:30 or so and get all my goodies. Only one of the ones I wanted was sold out at that point so I'm pretty happy.

I also think a better resolution would be resolving not to move again anytime soon, that seems much more reasonable than stopping buying plants! LOL

Oh my I could easily spend $100s on so many of those beauties. This year I am paying down all of my credit cards and getting out of debt, and I am firmly resolved to do so, so I will have to live vicariously thru you guys. I do have some new ones planted this past month, so Ill have those lovelies to anticipate.

Oh believe me, Liz. That is a definite!!! I liked the last house, but not being too familiar with renting a house after owning for quite a while, I definitely made some mistakes which I sought to correct this time. The house was nice and had a lot of mid-century charm, but it cost much more than its worth, and the landlord was a really big jerk :-( I was beginning to feel that he was treating the "vicious guard dog" Sadie not nicely and she seemed to develop a fear of the hose. If my pets aren't happy, I'm not happy. I'm planning on staying in this house until I can afford to buy a place of my own, which just starting out fresh in a new home business, will be a while I think.

The house I'm renting now has a very nice couple as landlords, and it has a nice backyard with a covered patio, which will be much more conducive to spreading out my plants. From the front it's a bland ranch style with some previously added architecturally retarded features, but I'll make it look better with my beauties. I'm really looking forward to spring, since the landlords have given me pretty much carte blanche on fixing up their backyard.

I guess I just can't stop buying plants, it's obviously unrealistic ;-) We won't even discuss the daylilies I'm expecting in the spring...

So which ones did you order from HVH???? I ordered Antique Lilac, Blue President, Dragon's Heart, Geropnimo, Haute Coutre, Key Lime Pie, Me Oh My Oh, Matador, Rocket's Red Glare, Torch Song and Wild Blueberry. Let's compare lists :-)

No worries Fla_Chick, come spring we should all have beautiful blooms for you to see ;-)

I'm also trying to get out of debt (now that I've lost all the equity in my house and can't count on it to save me!) so I had to limit myself more than I would have liked, but I'm still splurging and getting some new ones. From HVH I'm getting Antique Lilac, Butter Cup, Dark Nebula (had this one last year but managed to kill it before it bloomed), Moon Madness, Pocohantas, and Sleeping Beauty. From your list, I already have Haute Couture, and I was seriously tempted by Dragon's Heart, Me Oh My Oh, and Wild Blueberry but managed to resist (at least for the moment!) I've got my eye on a few of Matt's too but haven't heard back yet on whether all of them are available (Devil's Eye, Fiery Furnace, Rock 'n Roll, Silver Memories, Stuffed Jalapeno). And I'm sure I'll end up getting a couple from Robert too but then I'm not allowed to buy anything more for a while!
