Anybody in Vancouver area?

North Augusta, ON

Mom and I need to escape from winter. We've thought about the Southern States, but I think it would be a hassle. That leaves the Canadian Tropics...Vancouver and area. I've googled a few real estate places and OMG...sheesh!! They must list online only the priciest of homes. There has to be reasonably priced homes out there somewhere, doesn't there?

Try some of the smaller communities on the Island.

How long are you hoping to go for? We stayed at a B & B on Victoria Ave (Vancouver). which was fairly pricey by the day, but rented for a month or more somewhat less expensively.

We're thinking of selling everything and going there for good! We don't want to live in Vancouver itself. A smaller community would be perfect. I can't leave everybody and go look, I have to do most of the searching online. I don't know the area at all, am hoping someone that lives there will chime in with a few suggestions of quiet village type areas I can research.

I live on Vancouver Island. The housing prices are starting to drop here as the economy isn't very good. But prices are still quite high compared to the rest of Canada. Dmail me.

Fort Langley is really nice and not sure what price range or exactly what your looking for, so here is a realtor that you can contact there..good luck

Hi there,

You might try looking in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission or Langley. Some areas are more reasonable than others, depending on distance from the city. Vancouver Island can also be pricey unless you go North (up island), and the ferry transportation to the rest of the world from Vancouver Island can be an expensive alternative to living on the mainland. My parents loved it there, but as they got older and needed better health care, we moved them to North Vancouver with us.

You can dmail me for more info.

Hey there! There's a little village between Abbotsford and Chilliwack called Yarrow. My husband and I looked there before we bought in Abbotsford..we would have preferred Yarrow. It's quaint and cute and has a good feel to it. There are quite a few places in Abbotsford up for sale. On my street alone there are about four properties, one of them is almost 2 acres but needs a lot (really, a lot) of work.
Fort Langley is another place that I would have adored moving to. However, housing was priced WAY up there five years ago when we were looking, so I can well imagine how much it would be now.
Langley is great, also. It's within the Greater Vancouver Area so phone is not long distance as it is in the next community over (Abbotsford). There is also Aldergrove for small communities. Are there children involved in this move? If there are, that would alter my recommendations. Might sound strange, but really is something that I would have liked to have known about before I made my moves. If you need any help, feel free to dmail me. I've been here for five years now, in Abbotsford that is, and am starting to get a real feel for the nuances. Be happy to share them with you.
