Hi and Happy New Year.
Can someone please tell me the life expectancy of a Rufus-sided Towhee?
In the wild and also under ideal conditions.
I've googled it over and over again with different parameters and can't get an answer.
Thanks in advance. :-)
Life expectancy of a Rufus-sided Towhee
So far this is what I have. If you pick a bird that's similar I'll bet it's the same or there abouts.

Thanks for the great info.!
Here's my story of why I asked:
11 years ago, when we first moved into this house, I was so happy to discover that the back yard was alive with Rufus-sided Towhees, my favorite backyard bird. Two days later my cat killed one. I was devastated. She had been an inside cat all of her 5 years but had worn out her welcome and had just become an "outside-during-the-day and in-the-garage-during-the-night cat". She was loving the new-found freedom and finally being able to go after the birds she had coveted for so many years.
A couple of days later, I caught her in the act of trying to catch another of my beloved towhees. I managed to get it away from her without injury, but it lost all of it's tail feathers in the near miss. After checking it out and confirming it's condition, I let it go, but was concerned as to how a bird would manage without tail feathers and if they would grow back. I was a new mother, new to being a homeowner, new to bird watching and new to gardening.
Now I'm a little more familiar with all of those things ;-) but still don't know much about tail feathers. But here's the amazing thing, today, a male Rufus-sided Towhee without tail feathers landed on my bird feeder about 3 feet from my face! I couldn't believe it. Could it be him?!? From the info. you sent me, it is unlikely, but definitely possible. And I'm choosing to skeptically believe it is him. :-)
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! (I won't burst the bubble :-) )
:-)
Aww he's very cute 3g's!
I think so. But I don't know about the "ladys".
That would be so neat if it was..
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. ;-)
