some of my cuttings are doing great with huge leaves . some mainly the doubles for what ever reason are showing signs of calcium deficiency . i havnt started a fert. program . any way i was at lowes and i got one of those ph water light meters to play around with . i wanted it because o have all my plants covered with rocks or pearlite to deter the fungus gnats . its working too . so i was checking the soil in my brugs and it was showing up alkaline . heres where i learned something . i was looking at ways to lower the ph . i read:Application of fertilizers containing ammonium or urea speeds up the rate at which acidity develops. hmmm i always wondered what the ammonia in "The Recipe was for lol now i know

That could be an extra benefit Iris, but I believe the main reason is that in the soil it quickly breaks down into nitrite, then to nitrate, then to nitrogen, which is the number one fertilizer component that plants use. :^)
