Way back on Sept 28 I posted "Is this normal?" I had a pic of my cherub, about four feet tall and still no blossoms. Well I am new to brugs and was informed that she hadn't "Y"d yet and when she did she would have flowers.
Well........ she Y'd and now I have my first flower with six more following and itty bitties coming from the new growth. I have waited nine long months for this and am so pleased with her winter color.
I am so proud to share my baby with other brug lovers. But other folks have been busy putting pics up of their brugs too. I have thoroughly enjoyed opening up the brug forum today to see all the beautiful colors. Everyone keep up the good work.
Gordo, what do you think?
Cherub has finally arrived!
thanks. worth waiting for.
Jeanne she is a beauty.I happy for you.
ohh i cant wait for my cherub to grow up i like the little ones
Dana, you sound just like me a few months ago. I couldn't wait til mine grew up either. But she did. Thanks for the kind remarks everyone.
i was wanting and wanting that one . then i got a bundle from gordon and to my surprise it was in there and the biggest one too . thanks gordon lol ! it really is growing fast and healthy hows the scent
Mine smells kind like rose powder. Ya know soft, not overwhelming, kind of fresh.
i can hang with that . fragrance seems to be the most important thing to me and bloom abundance . that goes for all flowers . and youd think all the smells would combine to one perfume but they dont at least not for me .
Well, this cherub has six more flowers opening. Then many more tiny buds like I said. I think she will be a good bloomer. I have obsessed over this plant, let me tell you. I'm glad her bloom day arrived. Now when I put her in the ground in the spring I'll worry over her again everytime a storm comes up with it's high winds. Then next winter.... AAHHHH! I'll worry about that then.
I'm patiently waiting for mine to get flowers. Your's is beautiful!
Patience is definately what it takes. But once it starts, step back.... I have six more open now and will take another pic when they all turn pink.
They break out as a pale green bud. Then when they open they are white. Mine start to blush within 12 to 18 hrs. I've been told the color is more intense in the summer. If that is the case, then this going to be one heck of a dark pink flower. It smells heavenly too. I wish I could bottle that.
how sweet looking, I a glad I have one and will be patient for Spring so I can move it outside.. all my babies are in one ares oen here except for the standards in the bubbler.. all the rest are in their pots ready for outside.. *sigh* when ever that will be.. yours is awsome.. congrats!
I have cuttings in holding too. I have moved four of the bigger ones from the house to the workshop with the Cherub and Pride. The rest are still in the guest bedroom. There are three that will probably be transferred to the workshop in a couple of weeks.
I'm a little concerned for the four because this will be their first time in cold weather tonight. The workshop will stay at 50° or so. I'm sure they will do fine. I shouldn't worry. But you know, when you've put so much time and energy into rooting them and potting them and spraying them with the recipe, you'd hate to lose them. All will be going into the ground come April whether here or at my bro's or daughters.
Here is Cherub with more blossoms. One looks yellow. They are slowly turning pinker. Debra, you will love it. It smells so good.
Jeanne, they are a very lovely color.
thanks
Your welcome
Congrats!!!
Cherub is one of my all time Favs.. She is a work horse and doesn't mind the heat bugs don't seem to like her either...LOL!!!
Kylie
Cherub looks like a totally happy plant! thanks for the pic! Debra
Texasgrower I'm a newbie in brugs. A friend of mine just gave me 2 rooted cuttings. I won't know what they are until they bloom. She had someone plant them for her and they didn't put the labels with the plant. You mentioned spraying them with the recipe. What is that? I want to give these the best care I can to get them to grow well
Darla, this recipe has been tweeked many times. I got the recipe from Karen who I think got it from Kenboy, who has since modified it some more. This is what I have made up. It is a concentrate so use two to three tbls to a gallon of water. Shake before using each time.
Super thrive is vitamin B1. I took 1/2 tablet and dissolved it into a 1 qt container for storage. The tea tree oil I got at Walgreens but you can get it at Wal Mart. Store the recipet at room temp. You can spray the stems and leaves daily. It really helped my cuttings to take off.
12oz of beer
1cup of epsom salts
1/2 cup ammonia
1/4 cup if molasses
1 to 3 drops of Tea Tree Oil
1 to 3 drops of Superthrive
2 cups of water
I'm new to brugs as of last spring. I still consider myself a newbie. There will probably be others who will give you their version of the recipe and it will work as well I'm sure. Hang around and read the threads and you will learn from some very experienced brug growers here.
Kylie, you say Cherub does'nt mind the heat? Is yours in the ground? Mine is in a pot and wilts as soon as the sun hits it. I'm thinking that maybe when she gets in the ground she won't wilt in the sun? Is that right? Can she take direct afternoon triple digit temps, summer sun ?I'm so glad bugs don't like her. I didn't have a problem with any this last summer.
