How to setup feeders on balcony????

Alexandria, VA

Hello,

I am trying to set up feeders on my balcony so that squirrels can't get to them. The problem is that I can't hang anything and I can't attach anything to the rails (against condo bylaws). Does anybody have any ideas? I really appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Eric

A patio umbrella stand might work to hold a pole to hang the feeders on. Don't forget to look into the window hung feeders, they have suction cups to hang on your balcony windows/door.

Great idea, Juneybug. Eric, you could also try buying a plant stand and then set feeders on it instead of plants

OOOhhhhh! That is a better idea! Never much trouble with the wind knocking things over...
The birds will find it just as easily, too.

Thanks for the responses. :)

About the plant stands: can squirrels climb it?

Or a coat rack stand.

Squirrels can jump 4 feet up and 7 feet to the side.

There are these large disks that go onto the poles to keep them from climbing up them. It blocks their way and they can't reach around it, and they can't jump over it if you put it over 4 feet up from the floor. Not a lot of help if they can just jump from the railing...

In both the current and older "show us your feeders" threads there are links to different places that have "squirrel proof" feeders. Be sure to read what everyone says about the feeders that they have used.

I use plant hangers to hang my hummingbird feeders on the porch. If I have a plant on my porch like my ivy geranium that I had hanging over the summer, I saw yellow finches coming about to see the flowers and sit on the planter hanger which of course if a hummingbird.
