Has anyone tried one of the wall of waters with an earthbox?

Crestview, FL

I was reading something interesting today about a device called a wall of water that you surround a plant with to protect it from weather up to 16 degrees, it works by absorbing the sun during the day and keeping the plants warm at night. Wonder if this will work around an earthbox? Has anyone tried it? What is the chances of it's working?

I've used them. They are not big enough to surround an EB.

Also, they only work during periods of daily sunshine. If you have day after day of overcast/cold weather they are useless because the water in them doesn't heat up.

Also, you'll need to be careful because they are easily blown over by winds (killing the plants you are trying to protect). I got around that situation by putting a couple supports inside them (broken tomato stakes) and it helped.

WOW's have been around a while now, some are even red-colored in an effort to use the red wavelengths of the sun, supposedly increasing the growth rate of your plant.

Hope this helps.

Shoe: Yes, I'm discovering that. I have a feeling it won't get that cold this winter because the weather here has been so sporadic, cold/hot, cold/hot. It's driving all of us nuts. Don't know whether to use the air or heat or just forget it. So; I don't think it will get colder than 16 degrees anyways. That being the case, seems like I could possibly plant some things a little earlier perhaps? Seems like I might even miss some bugs that way? I know planting season for corn, tomatoes, peppers, okra here isn't until the end of March. As most people have them planted in late March; but, I thought I'd get a jump on things. I did plant some corn, peppers and onions the 23rd of December and was surprised as the corn seeds has become almost startings. Alas, I started to early. But, now that I know I can grow blueberries that is an idea right?

I could have used a little more cold, my broccolu has bolted in the winter. Pretty yellow flowers tho. errrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I had a big parks order to go in last night with my sponges, thought I would try the little corn and some other things. Just the minute I went to submit the order, it vanished into computer thin air. Today, Im making my order and calling it in.
Need to get a few tomato seeds next.

I learned a little last year, and in planning for this year, im trying to put it to use. For instance, no cubanelle peppers in the spring, I use them exclusivly for chili and most went to waste. I will plant hotter, salsa peppers first, and then when the tomatoes are finished, I will plant okra and my 'winter' peppers. Im going to try to make some earth buckets for the tomatos, They actually will hang on to fall and come back to life, I just dont want to have it take over an EB for that long.

I threw some romaine out of the EB to make room for snow peas, darned if the lettuce didnt just root in the grass and is growing in pure FL sand. Go figure. I pulled the grass out yesterday and put a few leaves around them. Maybe the start of an inground garden...in the middle of the lawn.

Garden Glory: I planted corn, onions and peppers on the 23rd of December to just play around, the corn is huge, it popped up in 4 days, they are in my Burpee Seed starting tray, my new roommate wants to plant it in the ground, I finally told him to go for it, but, I'm planting corn seeds in my EB this Spring/Summer (smiles). My SIL told me to put my seeds in a freezer bag and freeze them, do you think that this could have caused the dampening off disease I got? I was just curious. I'm anxious for Spring to get here.
