I have a question.
I have noticed that my eggs are thicker than normal. Or at least what I think is normal.
Store bought eggs shells are way thinner. Mine are hard to crack. they appear to have a double shell. You can actually see two layers. Is this normal?
And Part II
I stuck two of them (our eggs) in the incubator for giggles, I am also putting 6 showgirl eggs in (when they arrive) and the kids wanted to hatch two of ours to see what they would look like. Here is where I may sound duh! What if they cant get out of that really thick shell????
Thick shelled eggs
I don't know about the doubled appearance, but homegrown eggs always have thicker shells. Thick is normal... thin is the result of industrialization.
I hate it when I have to buy store eggs... I always bust the yolk because I smash the egg so hard, being used to home grown eggs I get from my neighbor. =0)
I leave the hatching questions to the Odd Squad...
Have you got your TWT at the ready? Your sponge transponder units? (do I have that right?)
Have you practiced the Dance?
=0) Jay
It's normal Jean Marie ^_^
Oh yes, I have the wiggle down. But I have aproximately 19 days to work on all other lingo.
hehehe
Okay so, thick shell good! Thin shell bad! Got it!
I bust the yoke thick or thin. DH makes most of the eggs, unless they are scrambled. LOL
Thanks Jay! Your a hoot! TWT at the ready! I cant wait for launch!
The first hatch I did at home was a disaster. I cried a lot. My babies all pipped but none came out. They all dried up. I listened to them peep for a day and a half. Everyone said to just leave um alone. There must have been something wrong. They were probably right. Its just sad.
The hatch at summer camp was great...they hatched when I was not there. They were all hopping around in the bator. (Probably planning their escape)
;)
So they will hatch out of a thick shell okay?
I can see them inside the little egg going, "huh? this thing is so hard! Need power tools!"
It is permissible to remove a chick from the shell only if you know it has been pipped for a very long time i removed one that was in the shell for 14 hours.
I could definately tell it had dried and no blood veins were showing i only removed the top so if it was still attached to the yolk so i wouldn't disturb it.
This is the only situation i agree needs intervention when it is CLEAR it is in distress and it has been hours and it can't remove it's self from the shell.
Chicks peep loudly and will even roll the egg around hatching from an egg but they are not in distress. It's hard work hatching and some become upset if the chick gets quiet it's normal thier resting. Don't disturb thier resting periods to get them to peep you will be exhausting them possibly makeing them to weak to hatch.
The above again on removeing them is ONLY after a extremely long period of time and you KNOW they can't get out of the shell on their own.
I went lookin', wonderin' where the rest of the launch crew was... CPO Moxon, the engineers (nut squad), CDO... just where is this 'Goin' where no chick has gone before' bunch?
Oh-ho, they're all over at another Lodi Launch! Admiring Momma ZZ's little alien infiltrators...
Hey! Over here! serious pod question needing your expertise! Wipe the drool off yer faces and perk up yer ears!
(I'm recusing myself because I do jackasses, not chickens. If it brays, call me.)
Standing by...
Jay
LOL!!!
If they bray, I am in trouble...not zoned for donkeys! hehehe
Just tell 'em it's a desert rooster! That's what they call 'em in AZ.
A baby desert rooster is very fluffy and soft...
hehehe
A donkey is a desert rooster? Funny! I call seagulls, skyrats!
Too funny!
My dad has a donkey, he is sweet.
Yes, or more fully the desert chanticleer. Which is fancy for rooster.
You can hear them for miles in the clear desert air! LOL
They are sweet, it's how they wheedle treats out of susceptible folks. =0)
They will play chicken bowling with great enjoyment. Fortunately, chickens seem to be faster... at least mine were. Fun to watch.
Funny, my dads donkey plays with the pony and miniture horse. They play chase all day long. Funny stuff!
I think donkeys look like cartoon characters when they run. lol I love when they put their head up and give attitude.
