Anyone know where I can purchase these up here? Any suggestions at all are most welcome!
Japanese Iris - available in Canada?
2zeus Parkland Perennials carrys them in Alberta which is where I'm going to get them. http://www.parkland-perennials.com/ What province are you in 2zeus? I'm sure there are suppliers in your province that other members will know. Merry Christmas.
thanks, dahlianut - I'm in BC.

I was able to find some at the greenhouses in Edmonton a couple of years ago so I bet you would be able to find them in BC too.

If you scroll down through the attached page, you'll see some BC sources. You should be able to find lots of others, as they are very commonly grown out there.

Japense iris are commonly grown out here? I must be looking in the wrong places - I've never seen them in a garden centre, and it's hard even to find mail-order sources in Canada. I wrote to Chuck Chapman, and he suggested a couple of US growers, so I may have to try them.
That's a great resource for other iris, though, thanks.
Well, if they're not commonly grown there, in those nice soggy conditions they'd love, where the heck are they grown, LOL? Anyway, just going on brief observation from trips out there...
In the link I sent, check out Fraser's Thimble Farms for a few cultivars. Van Dusen and UBC grow them in various areas. UBC seems to offer the species, yearly, at its plant sale, if that's any help.
Another BC source, this one in Sidney - quite a few cultivars offered:

Yes, eating my words... not near so easy to find as I would have thought!
Only one or two at each of these:

Seems to be good sources across the border in Washington, if that's of any use.

Cheryl, I ordered mine from Parkland too. I've seen them in the Veseys catalogue as well.
Sharon
Do you have pictures of yours from Parkland? I'd love to see them.
Yes please. I'd like to see the pictures. It would also be really appreciated on the iris forum where they are looking for evidence of success with JIs in lower zones if you would post your experience. Thanks muchly. The link is here. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/916257/
Sorry, no photos yet, I just ordered the THUNDER LIGHTING (Parkland Perennials) last spring, so it has not bloomed nor do I know yet if it will survive outdoors in my garden. I'm hoping it will be ok since I covered it with dry straw late fall and so far we have lots of snow coverage.
I do have one that I bought on clearance really cheap at No Frills a couple of years ago, I grow it in a container and store it in the cold room during the winter.
I also managed to find late September a sales clearance Iris ensata 'Variegata' at Wickams for like $3 that I'm storing too in the cold room till I get it planted out next spring.
Really easy to water in containers.
Iris ensata ROYAL BANNER
Gorgeous.
They are so prettiful aren't they?
I just bought two at our tiny little garden center on Quadra Island. I've also seen them in the various mail-order catalogues. If we have them here, they must be available just about everywhere!
