Do I need a new DVD drive

My drive blinks a few times and quits. Shows up yellow in the device driver. Download new driver and says mine is OK.
Says it cannot load software. My programs cannot see it to burn.
Was working two days ago when I installed Paint Shop Pro X
Dell out of warranty
Windows Vista
SATA drive.
When I tried to install a new hard drive It would not work and they had to change the Bios to see the socket.
Looking for some direction to go. Ted
