I got my first 2 eggs yesterday and today from my barred rock Miss Priss!!!!! Happy Happy Happy.!!!!
They are so pretty and light brown but they are a little small. I supose they will get bigger...?
I am just so happy to have all my work pay off! I will take pictures but my camera has mysteriously disapeared...hmmmmm.

Congrats!! Christmas came early for you this year :)

The first few eggs do seem to be a bit smaller. Mine have been laying for a while now, and we still get some small ones mixed in with some regular sized ones and even the occassional huge one :)

I'm sure it will all even out soon :)

Pullet eggs are really small--the first eggs they lay. Then they get bigger--but they are suppose to get even larger after the first year. Fewer but bigger.

Oh yeah!!!! Eggs!!! How eggciting!
I am so happy for you.
Not long ago I got my first eggs so I still remember the excitment.
My eggs started off silly small and have worked up to about a medium so far. I have gotten a double yoker though. It looked like a duck egg next to the others! Funny! They do get bigger as Catscan said. I have 4 laying now and have been getting an egg a day from all 4. It took awhile though, because for awhile they only layed every other day or so.
Congrats!!!!! pictures please!!

And last but not least Lucille...the clever one. She's the smallest one and at the bottom of the pecking order but shes the smartest and always figures things out first. Im trying to put some more meat on her bones but Miss Priss is kinda the food hog.

Thanks guys! I think they are all so pretty but I am biased so its nice to hear it from an outside source. My first chickens that I lost, I had gotten from the feed store who buys from McMurray hatchery. Well this time around I decided I didnt want to support the big hatcheries because I didnt like what they do to some of their chickens and I wanted to support the little farmer because they just rock ;). And I think I got some birds with real personality and beauty. Id say Lucille is now the bit of the ugly duckling...but possibly she just still needs to grow into herself eh!

It is funny how some are smart and some are not....and that you can tell almost from the beginning.
