My friend has these growing in his yard and would like to know if anyone knows what it is?
Does anyone know what this is?
It looks somewhat like Carphalea kirondron, though never having seen it with seed pods, I'm not 100 per cent certain.

Well thanks for that I will research it.
I think it may be clerodendron sahlengii (I probably misspelled that)
It is a clerodendrum sahelangi...turkmans cap...the name is impossible to keep up with..
Do the flowers look lik this? then the area turns red, and forms seeds...
I have a bunch of pictures of it in my clerodendrum blog you can compare with. It gets very tall!

I just took this photograph this morning..
I had this for 11 years at my old house. It got over 12 ft tall every year and froze to the ground every year. Its a great plant. When we moved I meant to dig some up and take with me but I forgot.
Just this past summer I finally made a trade for it. Here in FL it is one of those "old garden" plants, a "pass along" that is almost NEVER sold in nurseries. They can't even order it. It is considered rare, even though it roots very easily from cuttings if you locate a source. I guess just not that many people know about it.
I am so glad to finally have it back again. I put it in the greenhouse this winter so it will be all big and beefy to go out in the yard in March.
Ya know..your right..I never see it for sale..
The only nursery I have ever seen it even advertised at is one down in South FL called Top Tropicals. They had it on their rare plant pages, and of course wanted an arm and a leg for it.
I had even considered going up to the guy who has our old house and begging cuttings until I made the trade for it. But that's always kinda awkward...
LOL, yes, I recall doing that for a yellow hibiscus cutting a couple months ago with a neighbor down the street. It was very awkward.
I have alot of the Clerodendrums if you ever need replenished. The Minahasse and Nutams seems more difficult to propagate from cuttings, although I haven't tried very hard recently
That is a very nice offer, I appreciate it.
I saw some of this for the first time last year at a very old house out in the country. I dug a plant and put it in a pot, but I saw no sign of it this year. Planted some seeds from the same place the other day and saw a little green sprout up, hope it's one of those. Something (rat, squirrel???) dug in the potting soil, in the greenhouse, where I had planted them. Don't know if it ate the seeds or not. I hope that is one coming up. I have other clerodendrums and just love them.
wow nice ginger,,,,,,,,,,,,,James
I've tried to grow them from seed, but haven't had any luck so far
How do you root it? Water, soil, vermiculite.....????
I think I've only rooted one before, and it was just soil. I accidentally broke off the top, and by habit, stuck it in another pot.
