Snowed in at home today, I have plenty of time to ponder life, and I thought I should share this news with people of the PNW Forum.
Ned Hudson, of Thorne Bay, Alaska, and a long time friend of my DH (Harley), passed away on November 20th after a courageous battle with cancer. He posted here occasionally with information about native plants, ferns and trees, about which he was an expert due to years of timber cruising in our region. He was a daily regular on the Coffee and...thread in the Parking Lot Forum and often posted in the Herbs forum as that was one of his gardening specialties. There is a memorial thread for him tn the Memory Garden which I am going to try and link here:

Goodbye to Ned Hudson
I only talked to Ned a few times but he felt like someone special. I just went over and read the postings. He was very special.
I am saddened by this news - the times I saw his posts, he always seemed very sweet.
Thanks for your thoughts. We, especially my DH, Harley, have just had the one two punch losing his dad and his good friend in one month.
No kidding - that really does have an impact. Please give Harley a hug for me.
Oh, this is tragic news. I didn't know that he was losing his battle.
I only knew him on this thread, but he seemed like a very nice man and I'm honored to have been able to chat with him about the gardening we all love.
Thank you, Holly, for letting us know about this. And please let Harley know that my heart goes out to him.
Kathy

Thanks everyone. Your thoughts about Ned are deeply appreciated. I only met him once, but he and Harley were good friends and I've heard stories about their time sharing a cabin in Olympia.
I too enjoyed Ned's imput and information. I shall miss him also.
