Priority Shipping is going up again!
Yes, how sad. Now that fuel prices have come down there should be a windfall for the USPS which will go where? When fuel goes back up, you can bet postage will again go up because of increased fuel costs. Just watch!!

It makes it had to send extras to people you would like to or even send things out at all.
Yeah makshi. I think most gardeners love to share, but this does make that more difficult if mailing is involved.
I have noticed one thing over the last 10 years that I have been trading plants.
Within your own state (at least this is true for within FLORIDA) UPS is cheaper than the USPS.
If I mail a package with USPS Priority, even just to South FL (4-5 hours away) it can still take 2 days.
UPS gets it there the next day. And last time I priced it, it was cheaper, because insurance is automatically included.
This doesn;t hold true for things shipped out of state, only in state.

I sent a Flat Rate box out to PA-the PO lady suggested that they might have to pay at the other end as it bulged out (stryro peanuts). It idid stick close-I always add strapping tape. I asked the other PO guy (he is the gardening one I talk with ,to jump up and down to break down the stuff. I didn't want to take chances as they moved outside of towns.-so paid almost Double. Pretty upset.. I had been told that you couldn't use Priority $$ on a Flat Rate box (was only one I had and had crossed out the Flat Rate.. one of the last time I shipped plants. Confused and just a bit crabby here.
Was concerned about that, but she said that she would write on a note. I better not get the fresh cheese curds back after the holidays if the "note" isn't accepted.
I am going to check out UPS-the are a bit closer (no big deal) but that is more than just a few cents jump in price.

best thing one can do is get a PayPal account and buy your USPS labels there - - getting the lowest of the three rates for each type of priority mail article . . . same goes for the Express Mail service. you do not have to be an eBay seller or any other type of commercial concern to use PayPal's "Multi-Order Shipping" programme. YMTCW - YMMV.

I think that falls under bait and switch or faulse advertising... My opinion... I think some postal workers feel the power and abuse it while others are forced to comply for fear of job loss from a manager that is just pushing their weight arround. Again my opinion only

Dave..the rest of the story..took over a week to get to PA..usually 2-3 days. Will cut slack due to the awful weather, but really made a waste of my effort to get the fresh cheese curds from the Farmers Market and the cheese makers store. I am sure that they tasted fine...the chocolate truffles didn't suffer from the time..or the fact that they don't get rolled and dusted with cocoa anymore..just put in container. Spoons work better than my fingers!!
And that postal person, I have dealt with her before and she lacks the knowledge of the other folk..unfortunately this time she didn't ask for help..winged it on my $$.
Oh well, other things to focus on..more snow and the plant catalogs are arriving.
Spring cannot come too soon, over 40" this month..and I don't ski, sled etc anymore.
I recently ordered a pair of work boots for my fiance from amazon.com/ I hit the express button not meaning too. Well I could not stop them and they were shipped here to Texas instead of Maryland. Needless to say I did not open them and resent priority and what a goof I am put the house number 211 instead of 210. The zip code is 21122. So I wrote the house number 211. Guess what no such house number. But did they pay attention to the name like my mail person does? Nope I got it back. GRRRRR
By the way there is no 211 on that street. DOUBLE GRRRR
I shoved them in a flat rate box added insurance again and delivery confirmation as I was told no way around not paying again and for 14.00 off they went again. I never did check if amazon charged or if I got free super saving shipping. Not checking I don't want to cry.
When my son got back from the post office he said did you mean to put Pasadena Tx and I said OH NO. but They had it right on the insurance because of the zip code for Pasadena MD. Pasadena TX I could have hand delivered at 4.00 a gallon of gas alot cheaper. I bet they love me. LOL They did make it this time.
No sense being dumb unless you show it my mom always said. I must GLOW DUMB all over. Hope I learned not to get in a hurry again.
