My chicken is stylin in her new coat

Bridgewater, ME

I am so thankful for this site,I would never have thought of making a coat for my hen that lost all her back feathers cause the rooster loves her so much.I got the pattern from cMoxon and made it the other day but had to wait for my DH to get home off the road(hes a truck driver) and help me with it because she is not used to being handled, but she was good and calm and I think she really likes it,I put her back in the coop and noone seemed to notice anything differant about her.I`ll see in the morning if she keeps it on all night,I hope so cause its really cold here and only up to 4 tomorow,I keep them in when its that cold,I have been keeping a 250 watt red heat light going going 24 7 so they won`t be to cold,it keeps it about 25 to 30 degrees in there if the wind does not blow.I found the ACV in the health food store today and am going to give that to them all winter to keep them healthy, thats ok to do that isn`t it?I allso started giving them minched garlic every day in there greens that I give them,I told my customers if the eggs started tasting like garlic let me know. Thanks again everyone for the wonderful info I get on here as I am a new with the chickens, have had them since May.

Ahhh! I love it and I love her. She is so expressive. I think they say to increase the ACV slowly since it makes the water taste different and they might be put off by it at first.

Some people swear the garlic makes the eggs taste different--others say "no way". We all want to hear what you think.

THIS MORNING I WENT OUT TO GET THE EGGS AND NO COAT ON BEAUTY!!!!! I LOOKED HIGH AND LOW UNDER PINE SHAVINGS IN NESTING BOXES ON CEILING AND NO COAT,MY COOP IS VERY SMALL 5X5 AND MAYBE 5 FEET HIGH SO THERE IS NOT TO MANY PLACES IT COULD BE.THE ONLY CONCLUSION I CAN COME TO IS THEY WERE JEALOUS OFF HER COAT AND RIPPED IT OFF HER WHEN SHE WAS SLEEPING AND ATE IT! WHAT DO YOU THINK?MAKING HER ANOTHER ONE AND THIS ONE WILL HAVE A TIE ON IT AND I WILL PIN IT TOGATHER INSTEAD OF VELCRO.

What in the World?!! Whatever ate it, may it get indigestion -not too badly if it's a chicken but....What could possibly consume all of that!

Oh, she looks so warm in her new coat! We need to get Haystack some for his chickens soon. I just read he is getting 25 below zero temps! sheesh!

You might want to check other coops in your neighborhood. Their has been a rash of theft of designer clothes. There may be one "bad egg" in the neighborhood.

So sorry about your Dad, mine past in Oct. so I know what you are going through. Just hang in there.

Belchertown, MA

So sorry for your loss. It isn't ever easy to lose someone, but the holidays make it even more difficult.

On a silly note, I wonder what kind of eggs those "coat eating" chickens will be laying????

Fla - didn't hear about that rash of burglaries, thanks for letting us know - it only takes one bad egg, as you mentioned - :)

Green, I am very sorry about your dad.
I wish there were magical words to make everything all better but sadly there is not.
Please know that we are thinking of you.

I'll bet those eggs will yield q-tips if you break 'em, TWT if you hatch 'em!

Now I know where TWT come from. I'm soooo happy. =0)
