Update on my frillbacks!!

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

pair 1 who is oldest their first eggs were not fertile so i had to throw out their first 2 eggs. they r mateing again, cooing/calling and makeing a nest but no eggs yet.

pair 2 had 2 eggs did the same thing and had to throw them out too but they r on second nest with 2 eggs. i just candled and to my surprise both have spider veins!!!!! i'm so excited my first fertile pigeon eggs, doing the happy dance!!! mom and dad both alternate takeing turns on them and oh boy is daddy protective, lol. mom is a great mommy she was on nest or i'd not have got the chance to candle real quick(malachite bites to guard nest but onyx doesn't). i'm so excited can't believe they have veins already it is only about 5 days tops i think since first one was laid.

pair 3 have been doing calls and no mateing and no eggs yet.

here is a pic of onyx the soon to be momma!!

Rrrggghh. Don't remind me...Busy here scheming as to how I can get back hatching. And Christmas? -DD is too young or old for everything appropriate! That we will spend on anyway, lol. Pulling my hair out!

Congratulations Silkie I'm doing the dance with you!! My Diamonds have 2 eggs AGAIN and with the new nest they both can't sit in it and have to share brooding.

I'm so happy for you i knew they would come thru pigeons are excellent parents.

oh grow, tell me about it things r really tight this year for us and we have 5 kid's, 6 counting my stepson who will be here on christmas also. i have spent the last week makeing things for them on the sewing machine and they know i've been spending day and night to make them things so mabe it will mean more to them this year when they see how much work we have put into it, i hope.

here is my rugrats boy how they grow!!

i have hatched from jan till about a few days ago when i hatched my serama eggs from a swap. i so need a break from chooks, rotfl but i so miss it very easily. in spring i will be letting all the girls go broody who want to before show season starts so they can let me have a little longer break, rotfl. it is just so nice to have a brooody do the work for a change.

harm that is awesome!!! keeping my fingers crossed for both of us!!! mine mostly males sit in day and females sit at night. once in awhile u see them sitting close both together though. i had a 8qt berry basket in for them to both sit and nest but the girls make the nests in the bottom of the cage in the pine so i just let them go. figured i'd rather have them get used to me and here then get them to use the baskets or something else for a nest later once they r comfy didn't want to risk them abandoning the eggs at all.

she is black and mal is an almond so i'm excited to see what the babies will hatch out to be!!!

i don't think i've ever been this excited to see veining in eggs, lol i'm still in shock cuz i didn't buy my birds that aweful long ago. they must be fineally settling in good so i've very happy they will be proud parents soon!!

yes, i agree they do!! christmas is my fav holiday!

oh, i don't remember what thread we was all talking about pullet eggs on. here is one of the pics of my last buff silkie pullet eggs. the others around it r the buff silkie hens eggs. that was honey's first egg she laid and she hasn't had one since but it has been to cold and wet to lay anymore they all r on strike now, lol. it was so small it had no yolk only egg whites when cracked open. it is smaller than the pigeon eggs and serama eggs.

Now why you should hatch chickens when the kids are so cute...!!

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Silkie, those are some great looking kids! I am sure they will treasure everything you make for them. My girls do enjoy telling people, mommy made it! I only have 2 to do for. I cant imagine how tired your sewing machine must be. LOL
Congrats on the eggs! I do hope they hatch out some beautiful baby birds! Are they called chicks as well? Hmmmm....
