I just got back from Las Vegas, where I visited the Flamingo Casino's wildlife habitat. In addition to flamingos ... which I could identify all by myself ;-) ... there were a number of waterfowl that I need help identifying.
To start, this one (#1) appears to be some sort of ibis; but does anyone know what type?
CLOSED: Need help identifying some waterfowl
NM_Jane, the only ones I too could identify were the Ibis and the Flamingo. It will be interesting when others come on line with great knowlegde of bird and identify them. Will be watching this thread off and on today. Thank for the lovely pics. Lee
1. Sacred Ibis
2. Black-necked Swan
3. White-faced Whistling Duck immature ??
4. reminds me of Abyssinian goose but don't think it is because of color
5. Mandarin Ducks
6. Ringed Teal male
7. Ringed Teal female
8. Ringed Teal immature??
9. Chilean Flamingo
As Donna except:
1. probably Sacred Ibis (from Africa), but could also be Australian White Ibis (very similar).
3. Yep, White-faced Whistling Duck, immature starting to develop adult plumage
4. Albino Mandarin Duck

Thank you so much for your help. If you ever get to Las Vegas, the flamingo wildlife habitat is well worth a visit. I guess with all the money folks lose, they can affort to buy some nice birds ;-)
Here's another one they had ... an African Crowned Crane. Check out that "hairdo".
Thanks again.
Jane
