Plastic or Clay pots?

Teguise, Spain

Are AV best grown in Plastic or Clay pots?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I've used both, and now I stick to plastic. I find it's harder to judge watering needs in clay... with plastic, I can tell just by picking up the pot if it's light enough to need water. Also, over time fertilizer salts and mineral deposits from water can build up in a clay pot and may actually damage the leaves touching the rim of the pot.

If you like the looks of a clay pot, consider nesting a plastic pot inside as a liner.
