The Jersey Giant "Tessla" that Tango (our White Silkie) raised from a chick was getting to be a big galoot.... Handsome as he was, I had to find him a new home. Besides that he was crowing from 4:30 am on... Amazingly, my neighbors actually liked the sound. Made them feel like they were in the country, LOL!
I found a chicken farm up the road about 3 miles. That was the first place I went, and the guy gave me a cage to go home and bring him back there to live.
New Silkie
Beautiful! great when you can rehome...
So now Tango was all alone, and cold was coming on, so I went looking for a new Silkie for her... Looking for a hen of course. I came across the American Silkie Bantam Club, and thought I would join up. I joined just in time to make it to what would be the last meet in our area for a while.
Ben and I drove up to Shawnee, OK for the meet...
There we saw just about every kind of poultry in the 5 State area, and I quickly found the Silkie group.

Seems all of the Silkies were sold by the time we got there... But then later on one became available... Just our luck. :-)
Here we are back home again.... Tango with her new friend "Goldi". Now all ready to snuggle down for the winter.
I took the opportunity yesterday to bathe Tango since it was in the !!70s!! Fluffed and dried her. She sure felt good to be all clean, and just in time. Temps were down to 29* this morning.
A happy weekend for all!
What a find! Goldi is beautiful! They look great together. :-)
Beautiful! Love the color of Goldi. Silkies are so sweet.
Oh how sweet! They look like they have become fast friends!

LOL Sue & grownut!~
Thanks to all the encouraging commentators! Grownut, Sue, smedgekles, ZZsBabiez, & sewincircle. :-S
They seem to be doing alright. At first Tango was pecking at Goldi some, I suppose to establish "order". This morning they were behaving quite respectful, so I got some mealies out of the fridge and sprinkled them around.
I wrapped them some buckets (with thin blue foam) turned on their sides with 2" of shavings and placed them in the cage. Later on we'll see if they go inside of their new contraption... :-\..
Before Goldi arrived Tango was off in her corner (brooding) constantly, not getting up much at all. Now she is up and about much more. I believe her new companion is growing on her and keeping her more active. The bath was nice for her too, I think it got her blood moving good.
Debnes
He's a vision alright!!
Great find for a companion for Tango! I see a better life in the future.
I am glad to see you found a close new home for Tessla where his early wake-up will be in chorus with others. The bed/nest boxes idea sounds great. Hope you can take a picture with them inside.
Hey, Debnes. Tango and Goldi are a hoot! And oooh so fluffy. Tell me, where are their eyes and how do they see! LOL!
Martha
Thanks Sheila!
They haven't gone inside of the boxes yet, but if it gets really cold I know they will be warmer in there if they'll go in. I have the cage fairly insulated.. even when it was freezing the temp inside was around 45*.
Thanks Martha~ Yep verrrry fluffy. I gave Goldi a bath this morning, it took about 30 minutes to brush and dry her out. She's really clean now. Her fur reminds me of a Pomeranian. Oh, and they have very large eyes! I still have no idea how they see through all the fluff, but they do, LOL!
Here's a pic of Tango (with Echo, the Magpye Duck) when you could see her eyes. They were about a week old April 3, '08.
Debnes, you are so kind to post pics of Tango with a pair of genuine eyes. So she's really normal! lol.
Martha
Guess it is like the sheep dog...they see inspite of all the hair.
