Has anyone else grown their own popcorn? I'm thinking about it and am planning on ordering from Fedco. The varieties they offer are: Japanese hulless. Robust 98114 White, Dakota Black and Pennsylvania Dutch Butter Flavored.
Growing Popcorn
Used to grow it for the Drive-in Movie theaters. (South American Dynamite). no more problems than any other corn, except that you can allow absolutely no cross pollination with other types of corn or it will not "pop" properly.
Thanks, Farmerdill. Is 200' enough space between the popcorn and sweet corn?
Just make sure the popcorn is upwind (prevailing wind) or does not tassel at the same time. But 200 feet should be sufficient in most conditions. It will take a 30-40 mph wind to carry the pollen that far.
Thanks again! Well, I went for the Dakota Black. Fingers crossed! Hope to be popping by this time next year!
