My 92 year old grandfather wants to grow some lettuce this year. "Boston Lettuce" only. I am having a really hard time finding seeds.I'd really like to give him some seeds for Christmas if possible.
I keeping asking for a better description of it so maybe I can find something close but all he'll tell me is "Well if you were from Virginia you'd know." Well I am not so that blows it all for me. Raised in NY and have lived in NE Fla for 20 years.
Can anyone help? I am willing to trade seeds, cuttings, roots, plants of whatever I have to make the old man happy.
Thanks you so much in advance!!!

Has anyone heard of Boston lettuce? Please help!
Boston is an antique butterhead type. There are several named cultivars. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=lettuce&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=Boston&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&searcher%5Bgrex%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search. Landreath sells the White Boston. Boston is also often used as a generic term for butterhead type lettuce in general as is Bibb.
What a sweet granddaughter you are, I hope you get everything you need. Merry Christmas!
