whitefly

Novato, CA(Zone 9a)

I gave a cutting to friends a year ago and now they say they have whiotefly all over it. What do you all suggest to get rid of them? Also it hasn,t bloomed. They have it in heavy shade and since they have limited space and little light will it ever bloom? Mine are just getting ready to bloom which is really late compared to last year. I'm fairly new to Brugs so thanks for any info.

The more sun the more blooms you will see. Shaded plants can be coaxed into growing rapidly with enough watering and fertilizing, but as a general rule, you will get many more flushes each year the more light you can expose your Brugmansia to ...if that helps at all. As for insecticides, they are too numerous to mention them all and many different types have been posted in this forum so a simple search should suffice.

Thanks for the info. They have been spraying it but I don,t know what with. Apparently its not the right stuff for whitefly.

So many insecticides burn the leaves of brugs, so I take a yellow plastic plate and smear it with petroleum jelly. The whiteflies are drawn to the yellow color, and they stick to the jelly. Works every time!

I use a weak mix of pure Castile soap and water for white flys. Just a for drops for a hand pump squirt bottle. I only spray in the evening after the sun is off my plants.

I use Organicide which is oil based and not harmful to people or pets.
